Re: Is our key fob waterproof?

You can get the metal key back into the plastic housing. Unfortunately it requires gluing and cutting on the black housing. If you get a new housing then you can make it work if you spend the time on it. It took me about an hour working on my old housing when I broke my key. It works, but it is my backup and not the one I carry around all day.

Complete;
Sony XAV601BT, Polk DB coaxial/sail tweets, Dynamat, V-LED Ext./Int./Dash, GE NightHawk Platinum, Plastidiped Steels/Grill, Duralast Platinum AGM, OEM Tow Harness/Rear Mud Guards, Weathertech F&R Mats/Visors/Bug Shield.

Re: Is our key fob waterproof?

At least twice, I've managed to drop my key in a glass of water while trying to carry three hands worth of items with only two hands. It only stayed submerged for several seconds, but it's never missed a beat with the original 2.5 year-old battery.

Re: Is our key fob waterproof?

sorry to revive this old thread.....

i have been getting mine wet for awhile now without issue but

i just talked to the Parts guy at my H dealer. he said he has seen a lot of issues with water and the FOB's (i assuming he meant throughout the product line).

heeding the advise on this Forum, i had him cut me a 'blank'. i will lock the real keys in the truck and use the blank to unlock the doors.

the PG warned me (alot) to not stick the blank into the ignition.........

just an FYI..

Thank you for giving everyone yet more reasons to not listen to these idiots. He wanted to sell you a key. You fell for it. Inserting the blank into the ignition key cylinder won't do any harm whatsoever. The tumbler pins will simply ride up on the blank the same way as they do on the "peaks" of a cut key. The cylinder won't turn. There is, in fact, more wear that occurs each time a cut key is inserted and removed from the ignition key cylinder since the tumbler pins move more.

Re: Is our key fob waterproof?

lol

actually, he gave me the blank for free..

as to the ignition, i am 'assuming' that the blank will bugger up the security built into the real key.. again, another assumption..

the PG really wasn't in a talkative mood so i just paid for my service and left..

I assure you the cost of the blank was more than covered by the price of the service.

Your assumption is incorrect. Inserting a blank will have absolutely no effect on the RFID transponder built into the "real" key or the antenna in the steering column.
