Just got back from the old stealership. Put $1k down on a RTL-E that is part of their first allocation. The truck is scheduled to be built in June. Silver with Black interior. I wanted the RTL-T, but they were getting 3 RT 2wd, 1 RTL-E and 1 Black edition with no news on when the next allocation is. They said they are not able to order/request specific models at this time. I have a Honda lease up in June, so instead of going without a car or rolling the dice on the 2nd allocation, I went ahead and put the money down on the RTL-E.
No deposit but you are buying the exact RL that I will probably end up with. Don't think I will buy before July unless my Pilot calls in quits before then.
You guys will be the future of the new Ridgeline movement! Interesting that most are new on ROC with one or two posts and somewhere and somehow you have decided to buy. I hope you can keep in touch and provide us with first hand experience here on this website.
I had a 2009 RL up until Summer of 2013. Traded it in for a Civic Si 4dr mainly due to gas mileage and just not quite enough power. I ended up regretting it after about a year. I'm also not driving as much now, my 2013 civic has just under 19k miles so gas cost really makes no difference to me now.Two friends of mine (out of state unfortunately) bought Gen1 RLs after me which have only made my regret worse. So now I get to rectify the situation.
I've been on celica forums, bmwforums (think they changed to bimmerwerkz haven't had a BMW in years), etc. over the years. Never joined the RL forums my last go around, been lurking the last year or so as rumors have gathered. Figured I might as well sign up and participate at this point.
If you would had asked me a week ago, I'd say "yes I'm putting money down!" BUT since I learned that I can't get everything I want unless it's all wheel drive sucks.
You mean they're not going to make a 2 wheel drive that is fully loaded out with the Premium audio and in bed system? And I can't even get a white with any interior but beige? Ridiculous Honda!
I've been in contact with a self proclaimed "honda nerd" at the local dealer for couple weeks now. I plan to stop in tomorrow or Saturday to verify if 1 of the 6 due in June/July meets my needs. If so I'll put money on it. If not I'll be ordering first day it's an option. Not to sure what sort of discounts off MSRP to expect. Hoping for around $3k off.
3K off? I would be surprised to see any discounts to be honest. I hope that you're right, but I bet people will be paying close to full price at the beginning -- which is why I might wait 3 or 4 months before stepping in to buy . . .
If you can get about 2K off then you are doing well many people actually struggle and get less. The margins are low with Honda as are other import companies. Even though they are manufactured in the USA go figure. Its always been that way since I can remember. When my wife purchased her new 2006 Civic SiG it was about 2K off after haggling and doing the walk away method. Ok Ok sir... please sit down let me talk to my manager. Wait and wait then its sorry we can do 1200.00 up and out of the chair walk away, calls back later to say 1800.00. Its brutal sometimes.
Is that refundable?
I am most likely going to get a Honda Ridgeline RTL-E or the Black Edition. All the videos I have watched really make all other pickups seem like clunkers. I narrowed it down to the GMC Canyon diesel and the Honda Ridgeline. After watching the videos, the RL won, no question. I laughed when I heard front wheel drive but now I am sold on the advantages of the AWD system of the RL. GMC has an auto mode, but nothing compared to the Honda system.
But, with all the praises and videos, there is NO way I am committing to something until I can put my hands on it, drive it and feel it. I also need to see the quality. CSIMO has me worried. :|
Yes it is refundable. With the "deposit" I get first right of refusal on that specific truck. If I don't want that specific truck I can use the deposit for another vehicle or they will refund/cut a check.
Texas has 6.25% sales tax on vehicles, but it only applies to the negative difference between trade-in and new vehicle.
Example of trading a vehicle in for a new one:
$40,000 new
-25,000 trade
=15,000 difference
+6.25% sales tax = $15,937.50
Example of selling to a private party then buying a new one:
$40,000 new
+6.25% sales tax = $42,500.00
-$26,500 sell private party = $16,000.00
Plus, if you trade you don't have to worry about advertising, test driving, selling, and making sure all the proper paperwork is done.
For these reasons, it's often better to trade in your old vehicle instead of selling it outright in Texas. You can save more in taxes by trading than the extra you might make by selling to a private party.
Registration and inspection runs about $75 a year.
We pay 12% 5% gst and 7% pst if the vehicle goes over 55k we get charged another 1k for every thousand thereafter up to about 57k where anything after that is a max 10% tax. That's nice of them.
Called three local dealers in SF Bay area to see when I might be bale to take a look at a GEN2
- Two dealers have no idea when they might be getting cars ("3-5 months' and 'last Quarter of this year')
- Third dealer has two incoming later this month and five allocations after that.
I checked with my dealer and they are telling me the AWD are being built first and the 2WD is not on the build list yet. The Honda Lincoln plant is supposed to be able to build 210 a day so it might be a while before everyone has them.
I've talked with three dealerships. One of them was terrible really didn't know anything they had a general idea of what their allocation would be but the salesperson really knew nothing about the product and couldn't tell me when he could order me one. Another dealer New even less and was supposed to call me back with information but never did. Luckily though the dealer closest to me has at least one sales person who truly knows everything about the truck or so it seems. They are supposed to have 6 of them coming in in June

That has been my experience with dealers in general.
Let's face it, car salesperson is not an occupation that employs well trained high-end talent. For the most part it is one of those occupations that you do when you can't do a real profession for any number of reasons. There are also a fair number of folks retired from other occupations. This does not motivate people very much to do their homework or go the extra mile. Mostly these folks just pounce on the customer that is there right now and can buy right now.
There are some exceptions to that and if you find one of them they probably will be able to give you accurate information.
The "coming in June" aligns with what my closest dealer said.
Considering making a $500 deposit down on a RTL-E from a dealer up the road a piece. They told me, up front, that there are no incentives, discounts, etc. My color choice is undecided, but they said they would contact me when the first RTL-E rolls in. The terms of their deposit agreement state that the buyer will pay MSRP + Protection Package ($797) + Doc Fee ($699) +Processing Fee ($50) + Lemon Law ($3) + State Fee ($21) + Applicable sales tax. (??!!)
Looks like those of us that buy early will definitely pay the price!
