No fair! Nobody gets this low-rider unless we also get a high-rider (Off-Road Edition)
Actually, I'd be thrilled if Honda would just tweak one of the trim levels to allow for 265/60X18 tires to be mounted with no rubbing and enough room for low-clearance tire chains...but that ain't happenin'.

Maybe the MPG loss of the off-road version would be offset by the MPG gains of the slammed version? Would be interesting if Honda offered them on a one-for-one basis! ;p
One has to wonder how much effect larger tires (two sizes up) would have on the G2's fuel efficiency. I'd have to look up the weight difference to begin to guess. I do know that increasing ground clearance by 0.5" would likely allow the RL to go almost everywhere my current Ranger (8.5" GC) can go. The main difference then would be the approach angle, which I think is better on my truck. Of course, Honda would likely need to tweak a few other things (e.g., speedometer/odometer, software, etc.) if they fitted the Gen2 with larger tires.
Excuse the thread hi-jack...it's pure fantasy on my part.
Modern day pimped out S10. Is there a niche market for this? Not for me personally I like the truck that is good at towing light off-road has clearance and can do everything else the RL has been able to do.
I have to say when I saw the very first spy shot I instantly thought wow this truck would have a great look lowered. I think it would also look a lot better with a slight lift as well. Where it stands is a bit boring. I know for some people that may be a bit older, this is not a concern in fact they may even prefer a lower squatting truck that is in-between not too high, and not too low either.
Lifted = better GC, better visibility over traffic.
Looks are subjective. Like you, I think both versions would look better. As usual, Honda has taken the most conservative, least-imaginative route. Maybe if it sells well, we'll see some specialty packages (at least through aftermarket demand if nothing else).
Definitely paddle shifters and a turbo engine as well. When the nine speed was on the table paddle shifters were a shot in the dark but doable if the technology was introduced. That will have to wait for now.
No not my cup of ice tea the Black Edition is all I want.
I think it's stupid especially here in this area when you get snow and stuff.
Then you see the people going very almost stand still slow over speed bumps or potholes.
This is something you would use in LA like Fast & Furious Cars.
Exactly slowing down to a crawl holding your breath hoping you don't bottom out while going over a speed bump or a 1-2 inch driveway curb in a truck is puzzling.
Not something I'd want for myself, but I recall the years of slammed S10's, Toyota Trucks, Nissans, etc. and it looked like the owners were having fun, so why not?
They'd probably have to cut the springs as well as run smaller diameter wheels so the axles clear the suspension parts and still have at least some travel.
Trends do tend to go around in circles usually over a few decades of absence this would put the entire S10 and Nissans as you said back in style.
It may not be for us but yes I can see Honda pulling this off with this gen 2 better than any truck out there. Which would put this RL as the go to truck in style and original for whatever and wherever this cult like may be. A lot of people liked that low profile somewhat restricked use of a truck look back in the day. Most of those trucks are long gone now and nobody is really do it.
Lastly: I may not be fan of this truck but I sure hope they can sell a lot of these things because its the only way we see these special editions like a sport lowered model, or an off-road trim package introduced. Technology such as engines and transmissions these trucks really have to stand the test of time to survive the development years.
If they don't sell them all that well then Honda will just let it fade away into the mist. Im not sure it has enough right now to do it but I hope I'm wrong. Like Dog I want to see a genuine factor off-road trim version with arm console and 6K towing someday. Thats all this man was asking for.
Sorry, but if I want a truck, Ill buy a truck. If I want a sports car, Ill buy a sports car. I never got the desire to lower a truck into a sports car. Its a personal thing obviously.
Its definitely a one off by that dealer but i do want the red H emblems they put on there. The pinstripe is too much IMO. Pretty sure its nothing more than emblems and an exhaust...

Putting Type-R trim badges on non-legit Type-R trim vehicles is a polarizing cosmetic decision. To some, it's a nod to uniqueness and performance aspirations ... but to a brand purist it's a kind of sacrilege.
Not deeply invested in either perspective myself, but I'll get excited about a Type R Ridgeline when I can configure one on the Honda website and put in an order to pick it up from my local dealer - a 75hp power bump and more aggressive shift logic would turn this truck into a respectably gnarly hoon machine. A man can dream, however I'm not optimistic that Honda is pushing in that direction. I'm still floored that the US market got the Civic R out of them.
-Rather have Championship White with all black trim. Wonder what Phoenix Yellow would look like?
-Rather have a resigned, hand built (like the older Type R's), C engine in a 3.7L (C37B DOHC) should make around 335-350hp/265-290 all motor, higher rev.
OR
The new Type R's are around 300hp out of a 2.0 soooo why couldn't Honda crank 50-60% more out of a 3.5 or 3.7 with factory boost, easy?
-Would It be AWD or FWD? Launch control? Why not!
-6 speed stick or Paddles? LSD?
-Brembo GT 6 pistons with braided lines.
-Huge sway bars also needed!
I've owned a USDM DC2 Type R and can say there are big performance differences stock for stock off lower models.
I'm sure it's not all fluff. I hunted around and found an image of an aftermarket Type R exhaust system, the "Type R" emblem alone is good for a 10hp bump.
