Have a white Gen 1, 2008, which I love. Was so excited for Generation 2, but, unfortunately, they released the Black Edition first. I wrote off Honda as my next truck choice based on this model. I can't believe that someone over at Honda would let this thing out of the barn...WTF??? Hideous!!
Recently saw a silver one which looked much much better. Would consider actually buying one other than the fact that I think I'm going to need more towing capacity.
I would tend to agree, but I also don't really care for any of the black-out trucks, mostly due to the black wheels. Just too much black, IMO. Plus, the G2 black wheels are gawd-awful. Strike 2.
Now, a nice pure white truck with black wheels....now you're talking! I've seen a number of those (all mfg'rs) that look sharp. I also think the G2 looks best in white.
Kinda funny tho, cuz a lot of the all black sports cars look really good with black wheels. Must just be a bad truck thing. :surprise:
Hard to put it into words, but I think the black-on-black-on-black de-accentuates any curves or details in the body panels. And I hate black wheels on vehicles to begin with - they look somewhat out of place. Black with another accent color is alright.
The black-on-black-on-black also makes the cab look really tall compared to the rest of the truck - disproportioned.
The only thing I don't like are the rims otherwise I'm hoping it will be my next vehicle, rims are easy to replace. But yeah I think he's think he's trolling/
The first Gen Ridgeline was a great truck and I considered buying one, but I just couldn't warm up to its looks. I think the two guys that designed it were named Judge Dread and Darth Vader.
I will say the black on black on black on black doesn't look that good on this truck, mainly because the rims and tires are too small and they are ugly. I have a black T and I appreciate the chrome trim around the windows, I feel like it enhances the design but can't wait to replace the wheels.
Have posted this elsewhere, but relevent here as my humble opinion why black does not work, coming from someone who has owned exclusively black vehicles. It is because of the lower plastic trim pieces, when you look at a light colored RL, like Silver or White, those black pieces do not appear as part of the main shape of the vehicle, and the RL has the right proportions on the painted parts. When on a dark color like black, the black plastic pieces integrate into the full shape of the vehicle and knock the proportions off, the sides seem too high for example, the height makes it look more SUV-ish. To make matters worse, the black plastic is a green-black, but the paint a purple-black, and the tires a dingy-black, so up close there are concerns too. And then the black wheels somehow make the wheel/tire combo look too small, on my black RTX, love going with gray on the wheels. All pictured below. My apologies to black edition owners, and if you like your car, does not matter what everyone thinks, but I am a black car enthusiast and am suddenly drawn to the color I have always hated most... silver.
And I'm the opposite. Silver white or black are my go to colors, depending on the vehicle, but I really dislike having a vehicle with plastic trim that doesn't match in color, it makes it looks cheap imo. (i.e. The f150) Since the RL does have the plastics, I went with black. I know it's not a perfect match but it blends in a little better. As far as wheels go, I like contrast. A lighter color vehicle with black wheels or a black vehicle with some brushed alloy wheels. Again that's just my preference, everyone's different.
To me a truck = a vehicle with the capacity to haul persons that includes a large compartment, much larger than a typical trunk, for carrying cargo.
For everybody else, though, they don't consider it a truck. I guess their definition has something to do with a body built on a frame, which doesn't explain the concept of "trucking something from A to B."
Eye of the beholder. Comes under that category of who gives a S*** what someone else thinks about (any) appearance. I am not buying my truck for them to look at and they can buy whatever they want!
My Gen 1 was black. Great truck. This one does look a little off...but it just needs a little lift and level, and larger tires, imo.
Nothing drastic, just a 1.5 - 2" lift and level, and a couple size larger tires ought to do it, and it would look great.
I bought the Sport in black. I wanted silver or white, but when I saw it on the lot beside a white Touring edition, I sure liked the look of the black. I've never owned a black vehicle but it's really growing on me.
This entire thread isn't worth a comment... however...
That being said, I've had more positive comments on the G2 than on any vehicle I've ever owned... (I'm 61... and have owned *lots* of vehicles)...
*That* being said... I don't buy vehicles to satisfy someone else's aesthetic sensibilities... and don't see how that's even relevant in a truck forum... However... THAT being said... a comment like the OP's... a G1 owner... is not only ironically comical... it's simply in the minority...
You think it's in the minority because you're in a Ridgeline owner's group forum...you've got a self-fulfilling prophecy my friend. You need to sample the population at large, or the population of truck owners if you want a more realistic idea as to what people think about the truck.
I like the idea of what things are "worth." I guess some worthless things are worth considering. Paradox.
