5.7 Quarts? Local shop says 5?

Brought my G2 to a local oil change shop that I've been going to for 15 years with no problems, same guys still there.

I brought in 6 quarts of Mobil One and a K & N oil filter. I told therm the book says 5.7 quarts.

They told me the Honda's usually take 5 quarts with filter but they never worked on a G2 before. So they put in 5 quarts first, started her up, and the oil level on the stick is at the upper full mark.

So what gives? The book says 5.7, everyone on here say 5.7 but mine took only 5 quarts.

They didn't fully drain it? The oil change place I went to complained that it took "almost 6 quarts."

I saw him take the oil plug off and let it drain. After that I saw him have a little trouble getting the oil filter off so that took up a little more time before he put the drain plug back in. So I assume all the oil was drained.

I know this sounds really strange.

I changed my gen 2's oil and filter a couple of weeks ago. I put in 5.7 qts; after driving it a while and letting it sit overnight, the level on the dipstick was just a tidge over full. I'll probably try 5.5 qts next time - it was right at full when I got the truck.

Hondafreak: now that you have the truck home and you've been driving around for a day or two have you checked the oil level to see what it is?

Re: 5.7 Quarts? Local shop says 5?

Mine took all 6 quarts with filter change... it drained for a while, as the old filter took a while to get off as it is in a bad location to get off with regular oil filter wrenches. I cussed quite a few times but finally got it off as it was very tight from factory.

I used Mobil1 0-20 synthetic "advanced fuel economy" "recommended for Toyota/Honda" and Wix XP 57356XP extended performance oil filter.

Re: 5.7 Quarts? Local shop says 5?

One other possibility here: If the oil change place gives you a fixed quote based on an assumption of how many quarts the vehicle needs, and they are wrong, then they have to eat the cost of the sixth quart. That's essentially what I ran into on my first change and I basically told the guy, hey, you quoted $X for a full change. I am wondering if that could be at play in this case of the 5 quart oil change? Perhaps they added in something left over from another change to get it to full?
