What's the best tank you've gotten? So far I did 372 miles on a single tank of regular gas.

I believe I average 360-375 with 50 left in the tank before I refuel.

My last tank was a bit better and was about 15-20 miles more with 50 left in the tank. It really depends on how you drive. All highway driving could land you at least 400 per tank with about 50 left.

26mpg hand calculated over 220 mi of highway driving from Pittsburgh to DC, return trip was 24mpg

18 mpg is what i get commuting

the display usually reads 1-2 mpg high

I never use Econ mode

I am getting 23-26 mpg regularly. Most of it city driving.
Econ button engaged.

I dont need V6 performance on a main stretch of my commute that is red light after red light. It helps me drive more DUDE like. I am takin' it easy for the rest of us.

This is the ONE biggest surprise of my RL. I bought it with my head down knowing each time i hit the gas pedal, Al Gore would openly and unexpectedly weep. This thing has EXCEEDED my MPG expectations!
My 2015 ford Edge was getting 21 at best.

Not sure how the 2017 RL stacks up against other pick ups but i am pleased as punch with my MPG.

I consistently average 21 in mostly suburban driving over 4500 miles of driving. Eco is almost always on.
I get mid-21 MPG by the dash (about 1 MPG lower, actual) with Eco mode on, and 19 - 20 with it off. Mostly rural / highway.

** I just checked Fuel Buddy - I am averaging 19.92 MPG over 1,688.8 miles (9 fill-ups.). Some Eco mode, some Eco mode off.

I noticed in the owners manual Honda suggests using a Top Tier gas. Anyone experiencing any issues not using the Top Tier gas?

Just to add some clarity if folks weren't aware. Top Tier is not the Octane (like regular, supreme..etc), it is the detergent that distributor uses in the gas to prevent carbon build-up. I'm gonna take a stab and say, with the VCM that probably the carbon buildup is higher, and so Honda probably encourages Top Tier.

Here are some known brands for Top Tier... and Costco is listed. But cheap stations, like Liberty (around here) are not Top Tier... and I'm rather surprised that Gulf isn't on the list. Link: Licensed Brands of "Top Tier" Gas

I waited until my RTL-E was broken in (1,700) miles before I started tracking. I don’t have a tonneau (which improves MPG's).

I always "hand calculate" (= miles since fill / gallons filled). I find the trip computer is always optimistic by about 1.5+ MPG. Other posts say the same thing.

So all hand calculated.... driving around burbs I'm averaging around 17.6 MPG (econ mode on). Last week I took a 800 mile round trip across MN/WI mostly flat freeways. Driving there (into a 20+ MPH headwind (not typical - that was remnants of storm "Stella") averaging 70+ MPH I got 22.3 MPG (computer said 23.8). Driving back (lighter variable winds) on same road & speed I got 25.2 MPG (computer said 27.1).

So I'm a happy camper with that. That's great for an AWD pickup, and about matches the EPA 18 city / 25 highway for our AWD trims

Here's a pix from that tank. I filled up about 40 miles after this shot. Note that optimistic Avg. Fuel MPG.... But at an actual 25.2 MPG I'm still happy!

just filled up, hand calculated 18.1 over 229 mi. Truck showed 19.0

For the curious:

Preface: Vehicle settings/configurations, driving style (stop/go lead foot or not), driving terrain (flat ground or hills), cargo/load, weather and dozens of other factors come into play for fuel consumption, so as they say, your mileage may vary. Here are my findings so far.

Vehicle: Stock AWD RTL
Fuel: Costco regular 87 octane
Drive setting: Normal, ECO mode OFF (never use it, truck is already “sluggish” compared to smaller lighter sportier cars in non-comparable segments)
Drive area: Pacific Northwest, greater Seattle metro area, mostly freeway/highway that have mild elevation changes, some towing under 1500lbs, primary route is to and from a 500 to 0 to 500 foot elevation over a ~20 span. (Elevation estimates via veloroutes.org - cycling route maps with elevation profiles)

Tracking started at: 302 miles (post first tank of gas)
Total fuel in calculations: 138.97 gallons
Total mileage in calculations: 3182 miles
Average MPG from above data: 22.9
I like to fill when there is still 100 or more miles of range, as I don't want to be "that guy" who ends up on empty on a commute rush hour traffic jam...

Two round trip “long distance” freeway trips, with total elevation gain/loss of 2702ft round trip
563 miles, 24.41 MPG
579 miles, 24.98 MPG

From available data on 8 fill ups out of 12
Computer MPG - Hand calculated MPG (Average/Min/Max): 0.88/0.76/1.43 - computer over estimates economy

I had posted this from a drive from Florida to New Jersey a few weeks ago. And I mentioned in another thread that it seems to me that my fuel economy has gotten better after the first oil change. I never use Econ mode.

Re: Techron. I'll use it in my motorcycle but only for the last few tankfuls before an oil change. I had read somewhere that too much additive of any kind doesn't let the very good oils do their job. I don't have a link and don't know the true qualifications of the poster. But it made sense. Also I only use premium in my motorcycle because that's what the manufacturer recommends.

I have read that Techron is merely the additives that Chevron puts in their gas and it is a waste of money if using Top Tier gas, which would be especially true if it's from a Chevron/Texaco station. Don't know the accuracy of that statement.
In my BMW R1150 GS whenever possible I have used premium non-ethanol fuel from unbranded gas stations (only ones around here with non-ethanol fuel) and have always added the appropriate amount of Techron. 50,000 miles and still runs great.

From fuelly.com:

"Based on data from 108 vehicles, 2,099 fuel-ups and 595,541 miles of driving, the 2017 Honda Ridgeline gets a combined Avg MPG of 20.44 with a 0.14 MPG margin of error."

Me, 2009 RT-L, filled up in New Hampshire, took the interstates back to
Connecticut, using cruise control as often as I could... 25.3 for about 165 miles...
Another 200 miles or so, once I was home.. (sort of rural, not much city driving)..
the whole tank averaged 23.1... I was stunned...

It would be nice if everyone would chat about MPG....not miles per tank, everyone fills a tank a little different the the next person. With most folks having smart phones etc. you can calculate mileage without using the so called adjusted know it all on board computer....

Just drove 275 miles to Asheville, NC and back on interstate averaging ~65-70 mph. Elevation change was 500' to 2100' and back down again. Outside temp was mid 60's with high relative humidity. Fuel was Exxon 87 octane with 10% ethanol. No A/C or ECON button; infrequent use of cruise control during start of trip. Cold tire pressure 37 psi. Truck was empty except for driver.
Honda computer mpg: Trip A- 26.4; Trip B- 22.0 (~5300 miles)

Honda wants everyone to use top tier gas because the Ridgeline engine is direct injection,
That means the valves don't get washed buy fuel, And are subject to carbon build up.
They are hoping the higher detergent will keep the valves cleaner longer.
I read something about direct injection engines, When they get about 45,000 to 50,000 miles on
the engines the valves look like they have 150,000 miles on them.
