How do you remove the pillar covers?

I just ordered some sun visor monitors and need to run wires from the headliner down to the fuse box. I've been searching but can't find anything on removing the pillar covers. Any help would be great. Pics would be helpful too.

Re: How do you remove the pillar covers?

Hope this helps. Note the caution about the SRS airbags in those areas.

Re: How do you remove the pillar covers?

Thanks for the info.

Is it really needed to replace the pieces that you remove. Car audio places remove these pillars all the time. They don't replace anything with new clips or whatever.

I don't want to mess anything up.

Is there any other way to get wiring behind the pillar without removing it?

Sorry, I don't know. Maybe someone with that experience will jump in to answer your questions.

Re: How do you remove the pillar covers?

you might get away with reusing the clip - it can be reset without causing any issues but there is a good chance you will break it getting it back to useable -the dealer always replaces these as they are cheaper than the mechanic's shop time to fix it. Most better audio shops have spare clips and screws to replace parts damaged during an install.

It the clip is damaged - it will work but you will probably get an annoying rattle in the pillar that is hard to locate.

On civics and other Honda's that do not have compass mirrors - you have to remove the pillar the same was as the Ridgeline - it takes quite a hit ot release the clip - do it like you were playing Whack-a-mole at Chucky Cheese.

The 199 fill ups on my 2009 Ridgeline with 20.6 MPG and over 60,000 miles driven- I just had 8 wonderful years in the Ridgeline but the Electronics are too many generations behind.

Re: How do you remove the pillar covers?

What about pulling the door seal away from the pillar garnish and just taping wire to a cut wire hanger and fishing it through to the visor holes? Make sure you get it routed behind the airbag just to be on the safe side. After your wire is routed just tuck it behind the pillar garnish with a screw driver. Never tried it but it might work. Just an option maybe.

Re: How do you remove the pillar covers?

I've removed my driver's side A-pillar trim numerous times to run various wires up and down behind it - never broken a fastener or clip yet. Just be very careful when removing it. And BTW; although that airbag warning imprinted on the plastic square that you pry out of the A-pillar trim looks very ominous, there's no airbag behind that trim - the airbag is up above the window housing.

A set of these may make it easier, if the break, some glue may be used also.
