45 mph gas milage--- FYI

I picked up my new RTS last Friday. I have many roads locally that are posted 45 mph and that is the actual speed driven - or somewhat less as traffic is rather thick. What I have noticed is that the RL transmission stays in 4th gear UNLESS you speed up to about 47 mph to get it to drop into 5th. Then you can slow down and gain some gas milage - at least according to my ScanGuage. It will stay in 5th down to around 35 mph - not exactly sure the mph as did not pay attention to that.

Sure do LOVE driving this truck.
Pete

Re: 45 mph gas milage--- FYI

Peter, I have noticed the same, I will often speed up to about 47mph to get into 5th, then slow if necessary, the rpm's drop to about 1600. FYI, I am averaging 18-19 mpg overall, mostly suburban driving.

Re: 45 mph gas milage--- FYI

My commute to work is posted 45mph and hilly. I keep it around 47 to 50 to keep it in 5th. I am getting around low 18's. During the winter, with the darker mornings and weather conditions, I drive a little slower and will get 16's
