Re: Hello Guys (and dolls).

I had the same experience a while back. I was looking for a nice used small pickup (this was several years back before the RL came out) and I was thinking about a Ford Ranger. I went to a lot and started dickering on the price of a used one, with about 20,000 miles on it, and they would only move about $1000 off the listed price. As the salesman did the ol', "...let me go talk to my boss...", thing I went onto the lot and went and looked at some new ones. I looked at a new Ranger and, with all the incentives they were offering, doing some quick calculations in my head, I figured out I could have gotten a brand new one, with more options on it, for $3000 less than the used one I was looking at.

When the salesman found me on the lot, I asked him why didn't he tell me I could get get a new truck for less than the price of the used one I was looking at, he said, "Well, you asked about a used truck, I didn't think you wanted a new one". I told him, "And the thought never occured to you that I might actually want a new truck if I could get it cheaper than a used one"?!? He just shrugged his shoulders. About 2 minutes later I drove across the street and bought a brand new S-10.

So, anyway....long story short, you should go and see what you can get for a new RL before you make any deals on that used one.

Re: Hello Guys (and dolls).

I'm a little late to this thread, but just wanted to add that www.carsdirect.com includes the cashback to dealer in their estimate of what you should expect to pay in your market. Edmunds and KBB.com don't seem to for some reason. I have used Carsdirect.com as the starting point for negotiation on my last 2 trucks.

Re: Hello Guys (and dolls).

Thanks for all the input guys (and dolls..) I ended up going to the local Honda dealership and purchasing a new SBM RTS for $25,300. I am content with the price, though they did appear to gouge me a bit on my APR @ 5.9 for 60 months. I have a few blemishes on my credit in the past so this may have affected my rate somewhat also, but no major infractions or defaults, and I have been on the up & up for about 2 years now.

I thought the dealership used Honda Financing and didn't see until I was ready to sign the papers that they use a local bank.

Question, I can refinance an auto loan just like a home loan right? I know there will be a penalty but surely I can knock down the APR by a couple points don't you think?

Thanks,

JR
