Console Lighting

Anybody know what the ambiant console lighting is? Literature mentions it as an additional feature on my 2007 RTL with navi. Is it the exterior light at the back of the console?

I think it is the amber / yellowish colored LED up by the Homelink stuff.

Re: Console Lighting

Yep. What Mike said.

It's dimmable with the instrument panel dimmer control.
That makes it not-so-useful if you like your panel lights dim.

I picked-up a handy LED Light (plus Laser) at my local CVS and clipped it (pen-style pocket clip) to the strap of the CD holder I have attached to the driver's side visor.
It's marketed by "Helping Hand" (follow the link to the "faucet queen" website page that lists where to buy their products).
I couldn't find this product on the site, though. It's product number 20750.

Has a really nice LED light on a flexible "gooseneck", a red laser, and a magnetic base. It comes loaded with three watch batteries, and three spare batteries come with it in the package. All this for $3.99!

I've bought 5 of them so far (for friends), 'cause I use one at work and coworkers saw it sticking out of my shirt pocket.
I've used the one at work daily *for 3 months*, and the original batteries are still going strong. I use the Laser feature rarely.

If I find a pic online, I'll include it here.

Re: Console Lighting

The console light is quite useless. I guess Honda does not want us reading and driving, I get that, but seriously....does anyone actually like that feature?

Re: Console Lighting

Yes I do like this feature. The light is just enough to see when driving at night and I want a drink of my soda or coffee.

Re: Console Lighting

It comes in handy when someone is sleeping up front and you don't want to disturb them.

Re: Console Lighting

I think that console light is very cool. It's so subtle that you hardly notice it but try putting your thumb over it and see the difference it make to lighting up the center storage bin especially when extended all the way forward.

Re: Console Lighting

This is my first vehicle with ambient lighting.... wish there was more in the back.

Re: Console Lighting

I brightened up the console area little by adding my own "ambient lighting." The lights are up under the front edge of console. The second picture was taken upside down with the camera facing the roof of the truck. I got the lights off of ebay for about $10 IIRC.

Re: Console Lighting

I don't have the ambient lighting in my RTX, obviously, but we do have it on our Odyssey EX. It is kinda nice to have a little unobtrusive light on the console at night to find snacks, drinks, etc.
