Re: Need Help!

Jim, I say this with all sincerity....if gas mileage is your major concern, get a Honda Fit. Most all reviews say it's the best small car on the market. Wonderful gas mileage, and a VERY reliable vehicle. (DUH...It's a Honda!) But if you really do need a pickup, you need look no further than the Ridgeline. US News & World Report designated it the best pickup on the market in 2008. And Consumer Reports gave it the best rating they've EVER given any pickup they've ever tested. And CR also gave it the best customer satisfaction rating they've ever given any pickup in the history of the organization. If you need FACTS, you'll find the Ridgeline is the best truck out there. If you need OPINIONS.....well, you're sure in the right place. I think you've already seen that! Best of luck with your decision.

Re: Need Help!

I'm pretty much right where you are, buddy. Except I currently live about 5 miles from work, so the gas is less of a concern (only fill up my Accord once a month).

I'll probably test drive a Tacoma, just to have a comparison. But, at the end of the day, I don't know if I can pass on the Ridge. I'd be thrilled with my Accord if it had a bed so I haul stuff easier. The Ridge comes the closest to that than any truck I've ever seen.

Anyway, good luck with your decision. Let us know, and we can swap stories.

Re: Need Help!

James--Wow, what a dilemma. Many here have suggested wisely-do you really need a truck? A small wagon/crossover will yield much better mileage. Don't know how many miles you drive annually so that is a big factor.

That said, I love the way the Ridgeline drives.....like a limo. It's safe, handles well, and I average 19 to 20mpg as I don't commute in bumper to bumper traffic. I drive 12k miles per year, so the mpg difference isn't a huge deal. My 06 V-6 Tacoma 4 door did the same on gas.

We are biased here ya know

Talking Re: Need Help!

Jim,

I see you have gotten a lot or feedback on your question of Rigde VS Taco. Can you stand one more? I went the opposite way. I had a 2004 Toyota Tacoma "Taco", 4 dr (crew cab), pre-runner, 2wd model. It was a great truck, served me well and saved me in a crash. But, the Taco was a base line truck. 4.3 v6, 2wd, straight line drive train (engine on the long axis to the rear end via drive shaft), belt driven clutch type radiator fan, the standard P/U build for a century. The Taco had no, and I mean no frills. Cruise and A/C are not frills. It had all manual seats, cloth interior, AM/FM/CD, that was it! It road like a tank and people would not ride in it because to be blunt, their arses hurt afterwards! Cramped would be the best way to describe the interior. Yeah it had 4 doors, if you could call the back ones doors. Great for kids, not for adults. Also, I do a lot of camping with the boy scouts and the Taco had to be going at least 65 to make it through anything close to mud. I got stuck in my front yard one time after a good rain! New, the Taco set me back almost 23 grand! The Ridge is light years ahead of the Taco. My 08 RTL has everything and more than the Taco, plus the ride and comfort (and the 4WD) are superior to anything Toyota makes. Gas mileage in the Taco was a dead 17 city, 18 Hwy, never better. My 08 Ridge gets 16 in the city and 19 on the road and it only has 800 miles on it so it should improve. The new Ridge cost me 25k even out the door (traded the Taco in on it)! I have to pinch myself sometimes!

Hands down the Ridge!
