If you haggled already, then it wouldn't be a first offer. Depending on how much you went back and forth, you've had multiple offers and counteroffers. In that case, many people take the "first" offer because it's not a first offer but the end result of a negotiation.

Well I should have qualified that by saying that the haggling wasn't with the financial rep. It was more of me talking about how the asking was out of my range and I'd need to see something a lot lower to have an agreement. For me, monthly payments are what I'm negotiating around. And in all likelyhood, I'll accept whatever the next offer is so long as it's at least $10/mo. or so less.

i love it i havent washed it since i got it 4/25/08, its dirty as ****, but you cant see the dirt, the only thing is that birds seem to love that color, ive had about 30 birds **** on my car since i got it

And I thought maybe it was just me. Same here, got poop all over mine and we picked it up 5/2/08. Haven't had time to wash it yet, but it needs a little work on the paint. I'm surprised the dealers don't do a little more detail work before letting the buyer drive away. It is going to need a little light polishing and a nice coat of wax.

Dave Martin

P.S. I'd have to say to go with the grey also.

I agree with you about the dealer prep. What are they charging for--to keep your car in the lot for a few months. They sure don't spend any time taking care of it. Just bought a 2008 Civic and the dealer barely washed it, let alone put a coat of wax on it. I had to do that the first week I had it.

Re: Nimbus Gray or Silver?

Gray is the perfect compromise between silver and black. Stays clean for one day longer than black, and attracts the chicks much better than silver.

Re: Nimbus Gray or Silver?

Uh oh... Dealer never called back yesterday with a revised offer... I gotta be strong. I think calling back would be a sign of weakness. If they don't call back today, I'll probably consider calling them...

The ball is in their court!

Oh, that's fine. Your first post wasn't too clear. It possibly sounded like you negotiated a bit and settled on a final sale price/monthly payment amount. Then you went out, shopped that price around, got offers from other dealers, then came back to the dealer and asked him to beat the price you guys had already agreed on. That's a bit unethical (and possibly making you technically liable legally since you had a complete contract), but people do do that all the time. PISSES dealers off. Since you mentioned not burning bridges, I assumed that's what you were doing.

In your case, it wouldn't hurt to contact them. The only thing is it gives the power in the negotiation a bit back in their court since they know you're interested. Course, you still have to say yes and since you're apparently so close, it's likely no big deal.

I don't have any offers from other dealers and would never shop around in the middle of a negotiation to corner them into a deal. My family has bought three cars from this dealership in the past 4 years so we have a fairly amicable relationship. We pretty much know what to expect from each other (at least I thought we did). I was hoping the get a better offer than was originally put on the table so I asked them to work a little harder on the price.

To me, their numbers didn't make that much sense. Taking into account 10K down, all the taxes and fees, 2.9% interest for 60 months, I was quoted $350/mo rate for the OTD sale price. This doesn't make sense to me because the "Clearance" asking price on the truck is 27,900. If I'm putting 10,000 down at 2.9% interest for 60 months, I'd like to see my payments closer to $300/mo than $350/mo.
