You spray on a cleaner, hose it off, let it dry, and spray it with their recharge oil, and re-install. It's about twice the cost of a paper filter; which is a bargain in my book. Any time you can increase performance (safely) AND save money, I'm in! They say they're good for one million miles.
I have the oposite view on K&N. They do flow a little better, but do not filter better and the oil in the filter can make it's way to flow meters and such and cause problems with them. I had one in a new 2004 Ford F150 I had and there was no detectable increase in power and close monitoring of fuel mileage showed no zero nadda increase in MPG. It's OEM for me. On a side note they will not last forever........
