Roof Rack Cross Bar Removal ?

I've got the OEM roof rack on my 06 & wondered if there is a way to remove the cross bars without removing the entire rack....I've seen a few trucks here & there in the photos missing the x-bars so there has to be a way... anyone?

Pat
