RTL Headliner replacement

Today I replaced my damaged headliner with a new one. While I was at it I thought I would take some pictures in case anyone is interested in what it looks like under there. The first couple of pictures show the side curtain air bags and how they are hung from the sides. I took the proper precautions as to not damage them or set them off. You can also see the drain tubes running from the moon roof to the pillar and then down. I believe I read here that some of these drain tubes were not hooked up properly and would leak. Mine all looked good. The last pictures shows the moon roof mechanism which I thought looked well done. I took quite a few pictures before installing the new headliner so if anyone wants to see anything else under the headliner let me know.

The fronts are easy. The passenger side just remove the two screws holding the grab handle on, pull the rubber door gasket away from the pillar and pull straight out towards the other side from the top. It is tucked in at the bottom that is why you need to pull from the top. The driver side is a little different in that it doesn't have a grab handle on it but you do have to pull out the "Side curtain airbag" insert. It is best if you use a trim tool so the pillar doesn't get marred up. This insert pulls out about 10mm and stops. This is all the further it will come out, now just pull the trim piece out like the one on the passenger side. Honda recommends replacing the "Side Curtain air bag" insert.
If you are talking about the rear pillars that's a little more difficult.

If no one else will ask it, I will. Why are you replacing the headliner? Just to change things up or did you have a horrible accident involving a one year old boy, a diaper change and forgetting to place the towel down.

Re: RTL Headliner replacement

I don't see a single strip of sound deadening material. I'd have slapped some up there while I had the headliner out. BTW, how in the world did you get the headliner out of the truck??? Seems to be a rather large part having to move through a door opening. On one vehicle I owned, the service manual procedure was to remove the windshield to replace the headliner.

Edit: Ya know, for those of us who complain about every little squeak and rattle in a vehicle, it's rather amazing they are as quiet as they are after you see what's underneath.

I'd be interested in some pics of the Dodge too.
I'd also like more detailed pics of the sunroof mechanism if you have.

Funny!
Yep, that's what happened. I knew my fro was getting a little long although it was fine when I had my sunroof open.

I was replacing the headliner because of a windshield replacement that went terribly wrong. The insurance rep wanted the shop to do it over "because we have to give him a chance to correct his mistake". I finally gave in but not before letting the rep know that if something went wrong again we were going to do it my way. Well the second time they ended up nicking the dash all up, tearing the roof liner, scratching the roof in multiple places, getting the passenger side sunvisor so dirty it couldn't be cleaned and to top it off they scratched the new windshield. The total damages are around $3000 at this time. This is for a truck that was less than 2 months old.
You see Rusty my Ridge attracts trouble like yours does.
