Question What are the best road legal fog lights to purchase?

I am in need of some fog lights. From what I have read the OEM ones are not all that great but I still want to have your feedback.

What are the brands, models, and your valued opinion on the fog lights that you are using. Please only list the “Road Legal” versions. I don’t want to blind others with my driving…….

Thanks,

My four top lights a cyber white from pep boys. Cheap functional for the Looks of light bar. Not too bright. Installing a brush guard bar in front this weekend and will be putting better fog lights on it. Will let you know what I find.

Re: What are the best road legal fog lights to purchase?

What is your ultimate goal in having these road lights? If you don't have a bull bar or a brush guard, your options are very limited. Also, do you want to leave them on all of the time? What area of the road are you trying to illuminate? What is not pleasing you with the stock light pattern. All of these questions need to be addressed in some fashion so we can give you guidance.

Re: What are the best road legal fog lights to purchase?

I want to have more lateral light to light up the sides of the roads for early morning driving on winding roads. I also would like further projection then the lows provide. The lows do not seem to "reach" far enough for my liking. Because of my height the lows are too low to the ground and my angle of vision is off. My viewing angle is such that I am really looking through the upper portion of the windshield by the tint. The high beams work great but my job is traveled opposite the commuters going into the nearby city. .

Thanks for your help

Re: What are the best road legal fog lights to purchase?

I'm a lurker here, not a Ridge owner. My dealer values his 06's still at near sticker, not invoice. Anyways..... all my other vehicles are Hondas (an Accord, a CRV, and a Pilot).

I've got an opinion on external lights. I've been using (for 6-7 years) PIAA 90 Pro XT lights on my F150. They are dual beams, both Fog/Driving lights. I use a remote control switch (on/off, low/high) so as no need to penetrate the firewall with wires.

They make a significant difference on high beams! Way over and above the regular high beams. I travel many dark, twisty, low traffic roads, and am prudent with their use. The color is also much whiter in comparison to the standard bulbs.

The fogs are similar to any quality fogs, still a low shallow beam to shine under the fog, spreading light to the sides of the road. Many people mistakenly think fogs will give them a tremendous boost in lighting, and they don't. These are also much whiter in color than my stock lights on low beam.

They were expensive, but I'm extremely pleased with them, and will trade them onto my next truck, hopefully a Ridge.

As for legalities, each state has their own rules. You'll have to ask there what is okay.

Re: What are the best road legal fog lights to purchase?

I agree with everything the previous poster posted. The fog lights that he mentioned are very nice but $55o is a little steep for me when it comes to lighting.

The obvious problem/challenge is going to be where to mount the extra fog lights. Your options are limited to the open grille areas if you don't have some sort of bar. Here is what I suggest. I would find the lights that best suit the area that you want to use and swap the bulbs out with APC super bright bulbs. I am not one ever to endorse an APC product but I picked up a set of these for my fog lights and they throw a lot of light. I do have pretty big fog lights mounted on grille guard. Your results may vary. The way the light is thrown from the housing has a lot to do with how long the bulb is, the shape of the housing itself and how the the parabola is constructed. I found a combo that worked for me that was downright cheap and and I'm very happy with it.

BTW, the combo is the forementioned APC bulbs (55w) and Baja fog lights from Autozone or Walmart. They retail for about $25.

Have you thought running a higher wattage bulb in stock housings? (I can already feel the heat of the flaming I'm getting ready to take.)

Re: What are the best road legal fog lights to purchase?

Wrascal and ChrisM,

Thanks for your suggestions and expertise. I looked into the ones at various auto parts stores, but most of the brands and lights are not legal in NYS. I may go with a self install OEM.

I betcha one thing: When RidgeDoc flashes 'em at ya, you dim the high beams pronto!

(Knew a guy years ago who put an aircraft landing light on his car. Had a range of a couple of miles & would fuse a retina at three hundred yards )
