Re: Tailgate lock install question
I installed this lock awhile back--I believe I emailed dynolock for a pdf of the instructions. I might have at home on my computer. It would be faster for you just to drop them an email now rather than wait till this evening when I get home. Dynolock suggests running the wire under the truck and coming up inside the center pillar between the front and rear doors on the driver's side to tap into the door lock wiring. There is a rubber plug under the truck beneath this pillar that allows access. I actually chose to run the wire as suggested in the Basikconcepts instructions--inside the bed wall and through the cab. Requires more time and patience and I liked the idea of never potentially having this wire dragging the ground or snagging something beneath the truck because I failed to secure it properly. As far as tapping into the trunk wire, I never looked into this. Lock has performed flawlessly since my install in July.

Re: Tailgate lock install question
No wire in the trunk that you can use. The lock on the trunk works completely differently. The latch button is actually electric and sends a signal to the MICU (essentially the body computer), which in turn sends a signal to the trunk to open. So there isn't any lock/unlock signal available there.

Re: Tailgate lock install question
There is no electric lock mechanism in the trunk. There is a pushbutton switch on the lid to tell the MICU that you want to open the trunk (this is what you press when you lift up on the trunk lid -- it is electric only with no mechanical linkage to anything else). And there is an actuator that actually opens the trunk lid. No signals are sent anywhere inside the trunk (or outside of the cab for that matter) when you lock/unlock the truck.
The lock cylinder activated by a key is strictly a mechanical system that releases the lid. Whenever the trunk lid release actuator is activated by the MICU it effectively does the same thing as turning the key and releases the lid. The circuit looks something like this: Trunk lid open button -> MICU -> Trunk unlock disable switch in glovebox -> trunk lid actuator The MICU keeps track internally of whether or not the trunk lid should be 'locked' or not (based on the last all door lock/unlock command received). The 'lock'/'unlock' state is just a virtual setting in the MICU. If it is in the 'locked' state it just doesn't send the signal to activate the actuator when you press the button to open the trunk lid. If the switch in the glove box is turned off the signal to activate the actuator is blocked there and never makes it back to the trunk. Thus, no lock/unlock signal in the trunk. Just signals for 'I'd like to open the trunk' (initiated by you) and 'open the trunk lid' (initiated by the MICU). And there is no mechanical link between the button to open the trunk (electric only) and the mechanism to open it. Because of the way this system is designed there is no way to utilize signals in the trunk for a tailgate lock.

Re: Tailgate lock install question
I'll be damned if I can find these instructions. I perhaps did not have a pdf, but just the paper instructions that came with the lock. As I did not want to run the wire under the truck, I used a combination of the backup camera install instructions for routing the wire to the center pillar (you can download at http://www.handa-accessories.com/ridgeline.html) and BasicKoncept instructions for the actual lock install and tapping the wire at the center pillar (essentially the same between dynolock and basickoncepts). The backup camera install instructions are very useful for this as it is quite detailed for the rear seat removal and wire routing route (The other instruction just say things like "remove rear seat"). I apparently have discarded the paper instuctions for dynolock as well as I can't find that either. Sorry about this, but I think with the above two sets of instructions, you can definitely get through this install. If you chose to route the wire under the truck, you can find the access hole directly under the pillar.

jim, at dynolock said you can use the trunk lock. however, they don't recommend it since the trunk has an on/off switch and you would compromise the water tightness of your in bed trunk.. he recommended going under the truck and into the pillar..
