Electric Scissor Jack mod-18" lift achieved (pics)
I like the jack except the need for a piece of wood under the jack to accomplish a rear lift. 17" works for a front lift, but comes up a little short for the rear.
I made a 1" extention that slips on the lift pad of the jack. It consists of a 2" PVC coupling, costing 67 cents at Lowes, a piece of 1"x 6" Trex deck plank that I had laying about and 2 #6 x 1" sheet metal screws.
Cut the coupling square at 1-5/8" with a hack saw. The O.D. of the lift pad is 2-1/2", the I.D. of the coupling is 2-3/8", so half of the interior of the coupling needs to be removed 1/16" all the way around. I used a drill with a 60 grit sand paper wheel. It was not that hard. There is also a rib in the coupling that needs to be filed down. I used a 2-1/2" hole saw to make the new extention pad from the Trex deck plank (tuff stuff). Place the pad flush into the non-filed end and secure with 2 #6 x 1" screws.
The Trex pad is a little loose in the coupling so I wraped it with a couple layers of electrical tape to make it snug.
Made a lift today and it worked great. Bearing weight is all on the Trex pad, the coupling only pushes snugly onto the jack cap.
There is plenty of room in the carry case to store the extention........
