Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!
I think you lose a good 8 inches in there if I recall?

Install complete. Hints for the next person
Step #4 should start out with the caution about the locking pin being sharp. I found out that it was sharp when I cut my thumb while removing the red wire holding the cover in. The caution about the locking pin being sharp is two sentences later.
![]() I'm not sure where it should go, but somewhere in step 5 it should be mentioned that the red wire that holds the two Plexiglas spirals together should be removed. There is a big notice on the wire about it being there for shipping only, but nowhere in the instructions could I find when to remove it. Step #7 should make mention of the fact that there is a driver side and a passenger side bracket and you should refer to the labels on the brackets to install them properly. I didn’t notice the labels until the last moment (almost installed them backwards). Step #10 should suggest the use of a stubby #2 Phillips head screwdriver (better) or a 10" shaft #2 Phillips head screwdriver (best) for installing the screws up near the cab due to the slant of the bed wall. The install was easy and went very well, even with the above mentioned issues. The bed cover is light enough that my girlfriend was able to help me lift it into the bed, though I staged the install via some well positioned milk crates. One crate I put on the flipped down gate and one was mid-bed. With us on either side of the canister we picked it and put it down on the milk crate that was on the gate. Then I jumped into the bed and got between the canister and the cab and we moved it back to the second milk crate (she was just guiding the end of the rails at this point). Then with her continuing to help guide the rails from the back of the truck, I got to the rear of the canister and moved it forward to its position below the tie down and the above the mounting bracket. I was able to scootch the weather strip tightly against the bed by using my fingers only – it’s easy. All in all it looks like a good product. The Plexiglas end caps to the canister gave me the heebie geebies initially, but the channel aluminum front cover bolsters its strength to the point that I feel it’s a non issue. I’m happy with the purchase; we’ll see how that opinion holds up with time. Roak

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!
Think I am about to finally take that plunge into a bed cover and I do like the look of the retrax, does anyone know if there are still any discounts available for ROC members.

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!
I recently purchased the Retrax cover for an '07 RTL. The "hints for the next person" post above are dead on. I still needed to call Applied Products, Inc. and spoke with Randy to clarify a couple of installation steps too. He was extremely helpful and readily available. The only issue that I had was regarding the two outer plastic screw covers not snapping shut. Applied sent me two replacements to try, which are on my "to do list". Overall, the install went well and I rate the product very high in quality. I am happy with my purchase.

Interested in the Retrax...
Are there any problems opening the gate both ways??? Is it water proof?? How much room do you lose with the cylinder in front of the cargo bed?? Thanks for input Ross |
