Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

All,

I have been lurking on this site for about a year, and am proud to say I am finally a member!

Question about the Retrax - I will need to load a motorcycle periodically, and will need to remove the Retrax to make room.

I like everything about the Retrax except the 12" space lost.

Is removal and reinstallation of Retrax difficult?

Thanks!

Sniper, welcome to the ROC!

The need to haul my motorcycle is the primary reason I did not get the Retrax. Personally, I was not interested in removing the bed cover just to haul my bike. My CB900F just fits in the bed as it is, on an angle, and would never fit without removing something like the Retrax. I went with a soft roll-up tonneau instead and have had good experience with it. I can't comment on how easy the Retrax is to remove, hopefully some Retrax owners can help you out there, but my impressions before purchasing were that it was not intended to be removed once installed.

Later,

Cool Cat

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

Cool Cat,

Thanks for the response!

I decided to get the Retrax - it was between that and the roll-up soft cover.

I will only need to carry motorcycle a couple of times a year, so removal should not be an issue. I have heard that it is not that tough to remove and reinstall, however I will believe it when I see it.

Went with Retrax because it looks easiest for wife to operate, and everyone who has one seems to love the Retrax.

Hope you are having good weather to enjoy that CB900F!

Sniper, I've never removed mine. However, there are 4 screws to be removed and 4 hands needed to lift it and walk it off. Not heavy, you just want to be sure not to scratch the RL or the cover.

Thumbs down Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

This is my first post and all i can tell you guys is the Retrax is perfect.
1. It locks in any position
2. The top runs water off the back and what ever water left will be caught in the 2 drainage tubes along the top.
3. I still am in search of a tailgate lock, but its a pick up and we do have the trunk so no rush. I have found some locks but not drilling into my truck.
4. When your car is clean and the Retrax is clean your truck will look amazing i'll post some pictures after i get my accessories added.

I'm so glad i found this website.

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

Jerzy,

When I ordered my Retrax, they threw in a Dynolock for free.

Just noticed that Retrax arrived at house today, will install this weekend.

Will have to see if I am comfortable installing the Dynolock, or if I will want to pay a pro to do it.

Once lock is working, I will give a report.

Dynalock has worked out great for me. If you have some general mechanical sense, you should be able to install it in a few hours. The longest part of the process is deciding where to route the wires. Also, removing the seatbelt mechanixm and fishing the wire into the pillare between the driver and rear passenger seat eats up time. The tailgate cap is a pain in the butt, particularly when putting it back on. Some folks snap it back on from the top; I tried to get it back on the way it came off - sliding it back into place from the side. See what works for you. Otherwise, the install of the physical locking mechnixm is pretty easy and only requires a little bending of the mounting plate to have everything line up. Let us know how it goes.

is the tailgate gasket included in the price or is this an option?

does it offer extra protection?

Gasket is an extra charge. Many users claim their truck beds stay much cleaner with the gasket installed.

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

Just a note to let you know I purchased a Retractable cover from http://www.teakatoys.com (888.832.5248 x809) at a reasonable price ($429.00) and am very happy with it. they were very friendly and helpful and will be doing business again with them for more accessories in the future.
The installation instructions were very clear and it took only about an hour to install. The cover is waterproof and rolls up to the back of the cab for full access to the box and so far has been waterproof. It is fastened on the sides with velcro and is adjustable for changing climates. It also is locked when the tailgate is closed. See attached pictures.
