Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

Might be ignorant on my part, is it water tight. I saw the drain, but it also had water in the picture.

The Honda one on my wife's leaks like a sieve.

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

I suspect that there may be some water leakage under harsh conditions such as an automatic car wash or a driving rain when the vehicle is parked. The drain tubes, as it was explained to me by Randy at RETRAX, go through existing rubber access cover plugs in the bed and drain to below the truck. No additional drilling is required. The drain tubes are for water that does not go down the cover and over the tailgate. Water that gets into the tracks runs out the back. Water that gets into the canister goes through the drain tubes. For the most part, I believe that it will be as water tight as possible but not as water tight as the trunk is. I would not put anything in the bed that could not chance getting wet. Please understand that I do not have mine yet and only am stating my opinions at this point. I really don't intend to represent myself as an expert. I certainly am willing to share what I do know, state my opinions and otherwise contribute and help in any way. Randy at RETRAX is really a great guy. I am sure that he will be happy to answer important questions as well. He has the real answers. Since I wash my black truck often, probably too often, I will give it a good test shortly after it is installed.

Ultra, Thanks for all the great info!!!

I wish they could have made this thing to allow full opening of the trunk.
approx. 22 inches open seems OK, but I do use the trunk everyday.......
I wonder if Bak or anyone will improve upon this limitation???

It also looks like you could still use a Bed Extender in the 2 rear positions but not the front position???

I will probably have to wait to see your pictures and get more info.

I guess somebody makes tailgate locks that convert your existing lock (color matched) to a power lock without having to change any handles, etc....I have not seen one yet though???

Thanks Again!

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

There is only about 3/4" clearance on each side of the bed cover when it is open to the point where the wide part of the lid crosses the location where the tonneau cover rail is mounted. The rail is wider than 3/4 " so it hits on both sides. I believe that someone with a Honda tonneau cover said that it has the same issue. I am sure that it would be a costly revision but I would like to see the in bed trunk lid made to be just a little bit narrower to allow for clearance of all bed wall mounted accessories. It is a real limiting factor. I played with a tape measure based on what I saw in the photos and it is a small inconvenience compared to the benefit of the tonneau cover.

I don't know anything about the bed extender use with the RETRAX.

I think that both locks are surface mounted from the bed side of the tailgate and RETRAX cover so I doubt that the release handles will need to be changed. The tailgate lock COULD be designed to go inside the tailgate itself but I really do not know yet. I did order both locks. The RETRAX lock will be shipped with the RETRAX cover. The tailgate lock will be shipped when they become available in approximately two weeks. Pictures and info will follow.

Hey, I just noticed that BAK Industries, http://www.rollbaktonneaucover.com/models___prices ,has their roll up tonneau cover listed on their web site. For those in the market for a cover, check them out too. I talked with them at the very beginning of my search for a better tonneau cover back in March. At that time they were the only company that I found that indicated that they would make a cover for the Ridgeline. They did caution about winter freeze-up issues because I said that I was from Pennsylvania. It did not seem to be a huge issue but I remember the person that I spoke with suggested running a small heater off of an inverter in the bed. That sounded like a real bad idea to me. They said that they would notify me when their cover was close to being ready. Nothing heard. Anyway, like I said before, for my purposes I like the RETRAX product better. It does look nice though. Others may feel differently and thought that having something to compare and contrast with might be helpful.

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

Does anybody know if the 22" are measured vertical ( from the bed floor to the bottom of the trunk lid) or diagonal ( from the bottom of the trunk lid to the start of the trunk opening). I was playing with a measuring tape and the trunk lid and the vertical is not that bad but if is diagonal is not that big of an opening

From the above pic, it looks vertical to me.

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

Good morning. Newbie here. Got my Ridgeline on 10 March, didn't even know Honda made a pickup til the night of 9 March. Anyway, I have found nothing I don't like about it so far. Am seriously considering that retrax cover even though I won't be able to open the trunk all the way. It is a family car, mostly driven on paved roads but has been in sand at the beach and handled fine for me ( I'm 68 ) so what do I know. Not likely to be in snow or climb a mountain with it. It has been enjoyable reading you folks on as many threads as I have been to so far, getting some good insite to my Ridgeline.

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

Welcome aboard dumbutt! Other than those giant picnic coolers or similar sized items, I am not too concerned about the reduction in the trunk lid opening. I would not want to try to lift one of those things out of the trunk well anyway, especially if it is loaded with ice and beer! OUCH! If you have the cover installed, why would anyone want to put one large item deep in the trunk well when it could be loaded and unloaded from the bed much easier? I would like to see it be able to open all the way but it is simply not possible with the way the in-bed trunk lid is designed with a very wide section on the forward half. I think the Honda cover has the same issue, but I am not sure. Hopefully, someone that has a Honda cover will reply and let us know. I will post very spefic information and pictures after mine is installed so that others will be able to really see what they are giving up before they order.

Once again, welcome!

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

Has anyone noticed that if you put a full sheet of plywood in the bed it will crush the drain line on the retrax cover? If so, how did you get around this? Guess maybe a 4x4 against the back of the bed would work as long as you didn't hit any bone shattering bumps.
