Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

Ours arrived and we are anxiously awaiting the return of our handy nephew to get it installed. Yippee! Ultra Hog, thanks for this great report and the photos. Sure looks good on blue.

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

Sorry, I missed a few questions. It is 16" from the bottom of the cover to the bed. I put the reflective tape on the edge of the tailgate after reading the comments and suggestions that someone posted earlier. I could not find the post to reference. I think it is a great idea because if you open the tailgate to get into the trunk that (from an earlier post) the same Polly Ponytail could run into it while she is talking on her cell phone, eating a box of Ho-Hos, and drinking a large diet Mountain Dew while smoking a cigarette and all the while checking her hair in the mirror and looking for just the right CD on the floor as she is on an emergency run to Wal Mart for a pair of fashon flip-flops that she just cant stand to do without for a minute longer. I intend to add a flush mounted marker light or two when I install the electric locks for the Retrax and the tailgate.

Thanks for the answer of how tall the space is. Unfortunately, we just bought a new cooler that is too tall. Luckily, I found the reciept and I should be able to return it. I hope we can find a good one with a lower profile.

Could you confirm that it's 16" at the front of the bed by the Retrax box too? It seems like it is just a bit higher when I measure where I think the track will go. Is there any flex in the cover if you have something that's just a bit too tall?

I'm not sure when we'll get ours installed. I will return the cooler we bought as it will not work since it's 19" tall. I guess I better look for something about 15" to replace it. Boo. It was a nice 5 day cooler AND it matched the color of our truck! DH said that's the reason I bought it and he might be right.

What are flush mounted marker lights? Where are you going to install them? Please let us know as soon as you get your electric locks. I haven't even ordered ours yet because I didn't know whether to get the manual or electric ones. I'd prefer electric, but wonder if they will be hard to install.

We put the reflector tape on too after reading the suggestion in this forum.

Now that we have our cover installed, I measured the clearance. The leading edge of the cover has a lip that goes downward. At the tailgate it is about 15 1/2" from one of the humps in the truck bed to the bottom of that lip. It's a bit higher when it's fully opened. At the back in the middle it's about 16 3/4" clearance. We're going to have to buy another cooler that's short enough to fit.

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

I finally got around to adjusting the side rail moldings (see post #38 of this thread). I used an ice scraper covered with a cloth and used a rubber mallet to tap the moldings into place to seal up the gap between the molding and the bed wall. Now the gap is closed and I suspect that the bed is nearly water tight.

I also applied the candle wax as shown. It made a huge difference. The cover glides effortlessly now.

I have noticed that the Retrax covers shiny surface can be scratched pretty easily, much like the hood could be. Since it is black and very shiny, one has to be careful not to slide anything over the surface. I used Dry-Wash and Guard after the cover was installed and it works great. It will help to hide scratches and will keep almost anything from sticking to it. Rinse it off with a hose then dry with a micro fiber towel.

No progress yet on the electric Retrax lock or the tailgate lock.

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

Woo hoo! I just placed an order with Randy at Applied Products for the Retrax. I really don't like to spend this kind of money on something that I've never seen in person, but so many of you on this forum have said such good things about it that I decided to take a chance. Randy still has that $100 off for ROC members, so that made it a bit easier. I also ordered the lock cover and the tailgate seals. Anyone put these seals on yet? Does it really make a difference?

Anyway, thanks to everyone on this thread for chiming in on this cover (espically Ultra-Hog for the pics and details). Now, I'm off to Sears to pick up the T40 and T50 Torx bits.

BTW, I got an email from Ed at Dynoproducts. He said that the Dynolock for the Ridgeline should be available in 2 - 3 weeks.

Re: Retrax Tonneau Cover AVAILABLE NOW + Di$count for ROC Members!

Welcome aboard Hotbox! I still like the Retrax cover and have had no problems. Do adjust the side rail gasket moldings to seal with the bed walls. Your instructions from Retrax will probably include the instructions that they sent and are posted previously on this thread. I used an old ice scraper covered with a rag to tap them into position. Now I don't get any water in the bed. It still could happen if the gasket shifts in time so I would still be careful when putting things in the bed that could be damaged by a little water. The candle wax on the rails also made a big difference.

I have not yet decided to put the tailgate seal on. So far I don't see a lot of dust or dirt getting into the bed so I don't see any reason to install it. I like the idea of allowing the bed to breathe. Maybe after a few long trips I will feel differently.

I think that the Dynolock is the lock that Retrax is offering as an accessory. Not absolutely certain though. Thanks for your info too. If you get the Dynaolck and install it, please post the information. Many members, including me, are interested.
I have learned a lot from this ROC site and I value the members and their contributions on a very broad variety of topics. My Retrax info is simply returning the favor. I hope it helps and I hope that your installation and success with it contribute in some small way to your enjoyment of your Ridgeline.

I ordered mine from Tony at Rathwell Hardware (Rathwell Manitoba). He gave me the discount and threw in the gate gasket and lock cover for free!
