Re: Rear bumper Trim/Protectors (Nice Price!)
Truth be told jj, I messed up my first piece (probably that too
) I cut it too short and didn't get the angles right So I only have enough trim for the set I'm making for a buddy. I tried to find this molding online with not much luck, not even thru pep boy's.The closest I came was the Auto barn http://www.autobarn.net/exteriortrim.html The molding I used was Style Guard #S38340 made by Cowles Products Company http://www.cowlesproducts.com/styleguard_pg04.htm Looks like they only supply retail..... |

What I would recomend is to cut 2 pieces 32". Cut one end to match the angle of the seam closest to the rear wheel well. I measured down 1" from the seam where the step pads and bumper meet. I put pencil marks all the way around the bumper using that seam. When you get to the side where the seam stops, I measured down 2" from the top of the bumper, I used a pocket level to get it accurate and made the pencil marks there. Then take blue painters masking tape and make a straight line using the pencil marks. Place the molding and tape it to the bumper using regular masking tape, it holds better than the blue stuff. When you get it in place, put marks on the molding matching the angle at the license plate lites. Remove molding and cut. I used sheet metal shears to do the cutting and a regular old file to smooth the ends. Make sure you do this on a warm day. I placed the molding in the sun and it became very flexable. I cleaned the bumper with rubbing alcohol to get any wax off. I put the molding back in place held on with masking tape and started to remove the red tape from the 3m foam tape. I worked my way around using the blue tape as a guide. It helps to have another person to lend a hand..........typing this was more of a challenge than putting the molding on ........Good luck!! |
