VR3 Rear View Camera Question - Turning On?

Hello all:

I just purchased this relatively cheap $94 unit from Walmart. I tested it last night by plugging the display into one of the sockets and the camera to a 9V battery.

The picture is excellent - I could see my son making faces clearly into the camera! This was with the display unit next to the front accessory sockets and the camera resting on the middle rear bumper step. However, it seems like my unit has its default as "on". Meaning when the RL's power is off and then I turn the ignition on, the display unit turns on without me pushing the power button. Is that normal? This is true whether the display unit is off or on just before turning off the ignition power.

Seems like a pain to have to always turn the display unit off after turning on the ignition.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, according to what I was told by the customer service people at vr3, the default is that the monitor turns on (and stays on) when the vehicle is started.

Re: VR3 Rear View Camera Question - Turning On?

I have the wireless version and my camera is connected to the hitch wiring. The display is on, but I do not see a picture until I turn on my lights/parking lights. Therefore, when there is no power to the camera, the screen stays black.

I use a little black cloth cover (it's really an eye glasses cleaning cloth) that I have draped over so when driving at night I don't have to see the screen or remember to turn the tiny switch on/off with my adult sized fingers... (You can see in the picture how I have the screen mounted ,velcroed)

Re: VR3 Rear View Camera Question - Turning On?

I installed mine on the back side of the visor and connected it up to the visor light and connected the camera to the running lights wire so when I turn the lights on, the camera powers up but the monitor does not come on until I hit the power button. It works great.
