The compressor is not as important unless you intend to maintain a sustained blast (the 80 gallons will last maybe 10 seconds).

There won't be much room left in the Ridgeline but you'll make your presence known with a set of Nathan K5's.

You can hear them here:

Now you are getting crazy. I hear them on big rigs or other trucks. I'm not looking for authentic train horns but ones that sound like it. I'm looking for recommendations on a 3-5 horn setup, 1 gallon tank and compressor

Truck air horns and locomotive horns sound completely different. Like comparing a Hummer to a Pinto.

Sorry if the info was a duplicate. I didn't read the entire thread.

WHAT? I'm talking the train horns on the rigs not a stock rig horn. That's why the thread is called TRAIN HORNS not big rig horns.

What I think is that you don't know the difference. Not many "big rigs" have the air capacity to run a real locomotive horn.

There are a lot of people that want to say they've got "train horns" when they don't know what a train horn is.

A locomotive horn is not one you can run off a 5 gallon storage tank with a 3/8" air line.

If you want to think you have "train horns" on your Ridgeline then find a web site that tells you they're selling you train horns and you can buy them and think you have train horns.

If you want real train horns then there are only two brands to buy, and I don't think I've ever seen them on a big rig, but I won't say it's never happened.

Really???

I know what a REAL train horn is and everyone else that has read this thread knows I am looking for what we call train horns. Horns that sound like a train's horn. So you can take the sun and stick it.......

Well silly me, I read your original post, "I want to install a train horn in my Ridge. The type with air tank and compressor. Any recommendations????????????" and thought you were serious.

I had no idea that you meant "I don't really want real train horns, I want what I call train horns".

Well, train horns are train horns. Horns made to sound like train horns are not train horns. Isn't that confusing?

If you want train horns then there are only two brands (in the last 50 years or so) to buy.

It's so much easier to actually say what you mean.

Re: Train Horns

LET ME PUT THIS IS YOUR LANGUAGE, because everyone else who read this understood. I want a train horn, oh not the one that apparently only I call a train horn but about 30 companies that do. Does it have to be the one off of a conrail NO. I would like one that sounds like a train. Will it be exactly the same or as loud, NO.

And you your advise to my question is so helpful, I can't thank you enough.

"If you want to think you have "train horns" on your Ridgeline then find a web site that tells you they're selling you train horns and you can buy them and think you have train horns."

Well there are differences to the compressors, or type of horn, that's why I asked for recommendations. I hope you are this helpful to all the ROC members because without people like you we wouldn't be able to tell who the good guys are.

Oh, and I should have a REAL train horn in about 2 weeks from an engineer friend. I'll make sure to post when I get it, to find a use for it. I hope you can be more helpful then since I am really looking forward to your opinions.

Re: Train Horns

Hey boxsky, lay off Joe. He's simply trying to tell you that real train horns are like the ones I sent you the link for. REAL train horns. You can't run them off of a 1 gallon tank or they'll sound like a fart.

Anything else is an imitation, clone, knockoff, or as Frank Zappa would say, a Sears train horn. They do not sound the same. They try and sound the same but they don't. You can't replace the sound of an engineered, cast aluminum trumpet with a spun brass trumpet.

It's like going to Wal-Mart and buying a Les Paul clone, taking it home and plugging it into your Marshall, and wondering why it doesn't sound like a real Les Paul. Gee, it sure looks like a Les Paul.

Again did I say a real train horn off a CSX or Conrail, NO. In the post I said what I was looking for. I know what a REAL TRAIN HORN takes to run.

Don't post if you can't help a person with their question. I don't need a person telling what is real and what is not. I know that already. Next time for you two I will have to post I am looking for a train horn sounding horn that I can run in my Ridge with a 1gallon tank. Would this be more helpful for you to understand?
