Lund Interceptor Install

When installing the Lund Interceptor did you remove the plugs from the rubber hood gasket or can the rubber simply be pulled out of the way to access the mounting holes? I realize the shield must be placed between the hood and the gasket but wondered if I should pick up a few extra plugs before installing.

Re: Lund Interceptor Install

Roc N Roll,

When I installed my Lund Interceptor I was able to fit it up in there without removing the gaskets. Good luck with your install.

Re: Lund Interceptor Install

Been awhile since I installed mine...
I think I had to tuck it in under the rubber, hood didn't close trying it over...
Would go out to check but the wife has the truck!!

I have had it on for over a year and am very happy, holding up great.

Welcome to the ROC!

I gently stretched the rubber around and over the heads of the plugs so I'd have better luck (more to grab) getting the plugs out without damaging them.

I explained it a little more in depth here.
It's been a while, and I've had no problems with any of the plugs coming loose. Great shield!

Good Luck,
Pug

Re: Lund Interceptor Install

Take a file or some sandpaper and put a chamfer (break the corners sharp edge) on the tabs that fit between the rubber weather strip and the hood. Some liquid soap on the tabs will help them slide past the rubber easier also.

Re: Lund Interceptor Install

Thanks for all the tips. I fashioned a plug removal tool from an old metal putty knife I had laying around. Just notched it with a dremel and a cutting wheel. Worked great - no broken plugs.
