Larryr, I just got my scanguage last night and I think I'm going to install it like you did. Are you still happy with your install? I'm not crazy about mounting it above the mirror or on the left side of the dash. But the, "not an ashtray" sounds like the perfect spot. Plus I can hide it. I don't like the idea of drilling holes but if they are hidden I less problem with it. Did you remove the "not an ashtray" to drill it? How is the scanguage secured inside the "NAA"? I have checked the mp3 install at H&A,
http://www.handa-accessories.com/ridgeline/mp3.pdf.
Do I need to pull the dash off just to drill the holes in the NAA? Thanks in advance for any additional advice you can provide.

Re: Scangauge installation

I love it there. I can close the not an ashtray and hide it
I used the 2 velco strips that came with it and but it on the bottom of the scangage and set the scangage so it it is angled best for the driver ( the drivers side is about 1/4 farther in than the passenger side.

and I have it preconfigured to show in the 4 corners like this
MPG last second .................................. voltage
MPG this trip .................................. MPG today

I used MPG for MPG last second
I used MTT for MPG this trip
I used MTD for MPG this day

at a glance I can see my gas mileage .

Might not be what you want. I set the colors to match the temperature circle.

When drilling the hole - start with the not an ashtray so the the left edge is about 1/2 inch from left side about the height that the plug on the scangage is.
then I used a magic marker to mark the top of the hole in the console and closed the not an ashtray with the marker in place to see the bottom of the hole needed in the console so the cable would move freely when open and closing the not an ashtray.

Re: Scangauge installation

Thanks Larry! So did you remove the dash to do all of this drilling? How difficult was it to route the wire behind the panel next to the gas pedal? Was that panel difficult to remove?

I like how you configured the 4 corners. Sounds like you and I are after the same goal - to save gas. For each day, I've also been watching my Max rpm's trying to keep them under 3,000. So far so good! Do you find that you are saving gas after purchasing the ScanGauge?

Thanks for the info!

Re: Scangauge installation

I did not remove the console - I removed the not an ashtray and drilled from there and removed the kickpanel beside the accelerator to run the cable.

there nothing behind the location I suggested to drill. there are wires 2 inches to the right of where I drilled. ( used a wood drill bit 1" to make the holes )

I just drilled the top hole in the behind the not an ashtray and the bottom hole and then drilled out the middle.

I pushed a coat hanger from the front toward the accellerator and pulled the scangauge wire that way.

all the excess wire is in the console.

Re: Scangauge installation

While not my cup of tea, here's a ready-made rear-view mirror mount for the ScanGauge--from e-Bay:

eBay Motors: BlendMount your ScanGauge Scan Gauge For Factory Look (item 170213911113 end time May-06-08 11:18:57 PDT)

My ScanGauge will go in the "NAA."

Tilt it out, then pull up on it with your hands. It will pop right out. It goes back in similarly.

Re: Scangauge installation

That's what I thought but was afraid to do it thinking I might break it. Then what do you do with a broken, "not an ashtray" tray.
