My ScanGauge will go in the "NAA."
Wow...did not know that existed. It's a nice idea, though a bit pricy. What I did on my last vehicle is use heavy duty velcro to stick it on top of the mirror, since I don't really need independent movement. I'm not sure if I have this much room in the Ridge, but I'm going to check. Using this method, it was sturdy and did NOT move around unless you pushed on it pretty hard.

It looks OK in the pictures but I'm also worried about how our hot Arizona sun will effect it. I've had pieces of plastic actually deform due to the sun being magnified through the window. I'm thinking that mine is going into the "not an ashtray" tray.

Here's the best I could do for a mounting position pic for mine.

Chris...

Thanks for the pix. Nice installation of the ScanGauge.

HOWEVER, your adornments hanging from the mirror as well as the suction cup to the front windshield make you ticket bait in some states. The CHP would love to see you cross over the state line....

I've heard that before. Too bad my RL will never get to Cali. I'd have to remortgage my house to afford the gas to get there.

Re: Scangauge installation

Since I started this thread, I guess I owe you a picture of my installation. I did remove the utility "pocket," take off the door, and cut a chunk of dark gray plastic to fit the opening. I'm actually still fussing with it a bit, but the in-dash appearance won't change:

I LIKE IT! It also makes me think this would be a great way to add switches for other things...

Love the ideas this forum & it's members share!!!

Re: Scangauge installation

ScanGauge INSTALLED! ScanGauge is in the "Not An Ashtray" (NAA). Really, really tidy--and the ScanGauge can't be seen when the NAA is closed.

Many thanks to the pointers and help from the ROC gang. Thanks to Amazon for VERY prompt shipping....

Tested the unit first before installation--just in case....

Kick panel needs to come off and the NAA needs to come out for drilling. Like others, I used a 3/4" wood bit. Worked perfectly. You must make a hole in the back of the NAA about two+ inches long x 3/4" wide to allow cord to move when the NAA is closed/opened. I used a knife to tidy the edges and square the hole off even though it will never be seen.

The ScanGauge plugs into the R-L OBDII jack which is located just above the driver's right knee on the '08. I used some electrical tape to secure the cord as well as to secure the plug. Extra cord is wrapped & stowed behind the dash.

Only problem I had was fishing the cord through--but finally I figured it out (or got lucky). Be sure to tape the cord securely to the coat hanger or fishtape before the pull through.

I think one has to be a bit geeky to want/use a ScanGauge. On the other hand, read some of the reviews on Amazon (search "ScanGauge") and you'll see there is a good possibility of saving some $$ on gas and/or on diagnosis and clearing engine codes.

Re: Scangauge installation

OK Teezer, what's the secret to removing the door from the
pocket? Inquiring minds want to know.
