ReTrax/Roll-N-Lock

I'm sure it's been asked before, but I don't have much luck doing searches. I'm getting ready to buy a new Ridgeline and it's imperative I have a secure truck bed. I've read all I can find about both, and personally like the looks and ad-hype of the Roll-N-Lock. But I don't find a lot of comments here on the forum about them. On the other hand, the Retrax has its own thread which goes on and on. Frankly, the Retrax doesn't trip my trigger. Am I missing something here? Which is considered the better of the two?

I just installed my retrax the other night and am really happy with it so far. I am interested in a manual lock, was looking at the pop and lock, but it appears there are some engineering issues they are dealing with. Curious to see what people say on this one. Is it available online?

Re: ReTrax/Roll-N-Lock

If you look around there are a few Roll-N-Locks out there. I looked into them when choosing mine, it does have the smallest canister of any 'roll-up' tonneau, but was turned off by the wide rail system which only allows the Trunk to open 15-16" as oppposed to Retrax & others at 21-22" (Open bed/OEM cover allows for full 28" opening). IIRC when the manufacturer was asked about this, their opinion was that the whole bed became a trunk... thread here

My choice ended up being Pace-Edwards, I still wanted a metal deck, I ended up going the extra with the Bedlocker. One of these days I'll even get it installed

Re: ReTrax/Roll-N-Lock

Thanks for the link. I really want a metal deck...............but there are many things I'd put in the trunk in the floor that would exceed the height available with anything that has a smaller opening than the Retrax. Hmmmmm! Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Re: ReTrax/Roll-N-Lock

I just bought a new Ridgeline about 2 months ago, and installing a bed cover was one of the first things I wanted to do. I spent about a month looking at all types of covers, and finally decided on the Retrax. I'm almost finished installing it, and I'm anxious to see how it looks and works. My primary reason for choosing a Retrax is that it has the best reviews...and least complaints... here on the ROC forum. I really like the way it looks, and it's proven to stand up well over the years.

My second choice was the Pace Edwards Full Metal Jack Rabbit, but it's a bit more expensive than the Retrax. (Another reason I chose the Retrax.) To me, after a LOT of research, these two covers are the best out there. The Roll-N-Lock appears to be a very good cover, so you should be well satisfied if this is the one you choose. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck with your search!

If you want metal, than the FMJ is most likely the one for you. All of them have their pluses & minuses...

It's long, but go read this thread all the way through if you haven't already. There is a lot of info that will be helpful in making your choice...

Re: ReTrax/Roll-N-Lock

I am loving my Retrax and recommend it to all who ask. Regardless of what tonneau cover you get, you will surely get into the 'oh crap' situation where the cargo you are carrying will be higher than the cover.

Re: ReTrax/Roll-N-Lock

I don't understand what you mean! I thought the reason for the retractable covers was so I could carry things taller than the cover when I needed!

Yes, he meant with the cover closed...
