Where to find tools

"Brown" just dropped off my Running Board for the Ridge. I've downloaded the destructions from H and A and have just realized I don't own a few of the tools required for installation. DRAT! I'm not going to ever need those tools again, so I don't need the worlds best or most expensive.

The tools I need are a Torque wrench, Rivenut special tool, Insert tool, and a 27mm Hex wrench. So where should I go..............Harbor Freight Tools?

Re: Where to find tools

Chris, man, you HAVE to learn to use the search button instead of starting a new thread every time you have a question. This has been covered ad infinitum. There's a simple $2 tool you can make for the rivnut. That's the only special tool.

Harbor Freight is a good place to get the 27mm wrench if your not going to use it often.

You shouldn't need a torque wrench, I would think, to install running boards, even though the directions prolly give torque specs.

There is a thread here somewhere that shows how to make or substitute the Rivenut special tool.

Good luck in your install - they are always fun and gratifying

{Edit} Ahh - found it here: $1.87 Rivet nut tool for step/running boards.

Sorry to disappoint you, shovelhd. I have almost given up on searching. Seems I never use the correct word and I end up with a thousand threads which never lead me to the answer I was after to start with. Sorry to bother you.

Thanks for the link, Joe. I'll check it out.

shovelhd, We all understand you’re narrow minded small pencil syndrome as you continue to show it every time a newer member does not use the “black hole” you call a search function. You have fully succeeded in alienating a great many of us here on the forums and many more have since left this place because of your asinine attitude. Wise up kiddo and treat the remaining membership as you would like to be treated yourself and quit being so effen self-centered. No one here questions your intelligence or lack thereof. They come here for help and camaraderie. Just sit back and take a chill pill and peace will come to you.

BB, In all honesty I don't think that shovelhd was being out of line when he suggested the OP use the search feature.

In the context that I read it, he was simply suggesting it's use since this subject has indeed been discussed many times in the past and in numerous other posts. Multiple posting on the same subject sometimes results in misinterpreted information. I see it often on other boards and quite often, the OP isn't even aware that one exists.

Speaking of chilling man, I've gotta send you some nice ice cold "Canadian Beer".

Since I maintain my cars myself I have collected a large numbers of tools over the years. For you to said that you will have no use for a torque wrench in the future amazes me. Although might need it for this job as JOZ RIGD said I can think of any number of maintenance jobs that it would be very handy. Buy good tools you will use them again.

And a fine how do you do to you, too.

If people have left because of me, one member out of 20,000+ and growing, I'd be very surprised. This forum is tame compared to other forums. Just because I have a high post count doesn't make me different than anybody else. It's a democracy here. You are free to ignore anything and everything I say. There's even a neat little function to help you do this automatically. And contrary to whatever you might think, I don't care what anyone thinks about my intelligence. The help I've given people speaks for itself.

The search function works very well if you are willing to put in the time and effort to actually use it. When people post the same question in new threads over and over and over, it's obvious that they haven't. The adverse effect is that by doing this, it dilutes the search results. There is tons and tons of good information here, but what good is it if you can't find it.

This is for the most part an unmoderated forum. People who care about it have to take care of it themselves. I personally know of many people who have left this forum because of the high noise-to-signal ratio. Good people, who just couldn't take it anymore.

OP, if I offended you, I apologize. Please try the search function (advanced search works best) before posting your next question. If you don't find the answer in an existing thread, then post a reply there. It will make it easier for others to find it later.

Re: Where to find tools

WOW! Been away from the computer all day and missed out!

In the first place Shovelhd, I wasn't offended by your comments. That's just your MO. I'm just sorry you are bothered by my questions. It's a free world, and I guess if my posts bother you, you could easily ignore them and read someone elses.

I was a school teacher in the 60's, teaching stringed music classes to gradeschool level students. I wonder how many would have gone on the play in orchestras around the country had I answered all their questions with "research it before asking me" or "go read your manual". Hmmmmm?

I'm not the least bit uncomfortable admitting I don't know things. I look at this forum as a place to learn things I'm not familiar with. I asked a question and Joe gave me a link that answered it............and I learned something. Thanks again, Joe.
