Do you know the process steps they used to paint?
I would assume it would have to be:
scuffed (give the paint teeth)
Masked on the outside (stop over-spray)
sprayed (body color)
clear coated (protect paint)

Does the underside look the same as the body paint (shiny, smooth, clear coated)?

Twintym...having had this done as well, do you have info on the process?

Re: Wade Hood Deflector - Body Colored

Mine is clear coated and smooth on the backside. I don't know if they scuffed the plastic first. They must have masked the front because there is no sign of overspray. I'm sure some body shops might do it differently however. It is holding up well and cleans easily.

Re: Wade Hood Deflector - Body Colored

I really don't think the inside was skuffed prior to painting. Seems to me that would be noticeable. You must realize the skuffs would be between the deflector and the paint and you're looking through the deflector to see the paint.

Mine has no evidence of overspray either. Had to have been masked off prior to painting. I concur with Twintym, mine is holding up quite well and shows evidence of deflecting bugs. Not 100% effective though. Honestly, I didn't expect it to be.

I like the fact that you have to look twice sometimes to see it. That still makes me smile.

Re: Wade Hood Deflector - Body Colored

If the deflector is scuffed the sanding marks will show through the front, clear side.

I have a state of the air body shop/paint facility as a component of my manufacturing facility. I had my master painter complete the finish of my deflector. He simply used an advanced adhesion promoter in the paint and the deflector is perfect, finished from the back side.

Re: Wade Hood Deflector - Body Colored

Anybody interested in seeing the painted Wade Hood Deflector on a beautiful Amazon Green RTL???

If not, please look away!!!

Much thanks to Jsant01, Twintym, and other visionaries here on the ROC for the inspiration!

The Amazon Green Metallic is painted on the backside of the clear Wade Hood Deflector giving it a deep look, and the color is a perfect match. I just gave the VIN and the color code to my body shop guy. He never actually saw my Ridgeline as I did the install myself.

Re: Wade Hood Deflector - Body Colored

Very nice indeed Rick!!
I dropped my deflector off at the body shop yesterday, along with paint code. Hopefully they'll shoot it with some paint before the week is over.

????????
I held the deflector up under the hood prior to taking it to the shop for painting and it looks like some, if not all the slotted mounting ears are very close to where mounting points of the gasket are located. Is there enough room, or do you need to tweak the deflector?

Re: Wade Hood Deflector - Body Colored

Gee, guys, there appears to be enough of us with body colored deflectors in the same area that we could have our own micro-mini meet! Nice photos, Rick. Hope to see yours soon, jch.

Yes - Two of the deflector ears interfered with the mounting points for the gasket. At this point I've just pulled the two plastic buttons from the gasket, and haven't tweaked anything yet (because of lack of time). I'm going to look at it again today (hopefully) to see what I can do. Probably just pass the two closest deflector screws through the gasket to hold it in place at those two spots, but I want to look at it again before I decide what to do. It's not a big problem because the gasket is compressed in place when the hood is shut, but I do want to address it so that it's tight when the hood is open.

Hope your paint job works out well. The shop I use turned it around in one day.
