You can position the extender toward the front of the bed or towards the tailgate. If near the tailgate position, you cannot open the trunk. If you have the tailgate down and the extender on it, you can still open the trunk. Hope this helps. Great product and great price, BTW. I'm curious if it takes no tools to conveniently relocate it from position to position, what type of theft prevention feature exists to prevent someone from taking it right out of the back of your truck? Granted, they would have to get the brackets, but is it that easy? Is it relying on the honor system?

No tools are required to move the extender from the rear to the front. There is no locking provision. I have seen some use a cable type bike lock to secure theirs. Hope this helps.

I am currently using a Kryptonite Bike lock and it works fine. I had my extender out for over a year without any problems. Now I have a tonneau cover and it is hidden.:cool:

OK, so all of you who are "sold" on the bed extender......what do you use it for? I've seen them, know how they attach and that they are moveable, but can't see anything I would use it for? Am I missing some wonderful tool that I should buy for my truck?

I use mine for the extra stuff we can't get into the trailer for Drew's karting.
The EZ up fits nicely as it is about 6 feet in the bag. We also use it for shopping. We stow perishables in the trunk and items like laundry soap, cereal boxes, etc. are put between the bed extender and the closed tail gate.

Like the other posters, the bed extenders allow you to haul more "stuff". Also with the bed extender in the front position, you an place items in that area which won't rattle around the bed. I do not use it everyday but when I do use it, I'm glad I have it.:cool:

Oh yeah...I know about the recall. The lock I have is the non-U-Lock...it is more of a cable type lock. I mainly have it on as a deterrent...it will not stop the aggressive theives. I now have the BakFlip and it works even more as a deterrent.

How do we go about getting the October special price? My spouse wants one for Xmas. Have you guys used your credit card online? Did you feel it was safe? I see they don't take phone orders anymore?
