: WI Ridge owner coming to AZ in January
coolcat 10-09-2006, 06:45 PM Hello AZ Ridgline owners!
I'll be taking a road trip from WI to AZ in January and I'm looking for some local help to find things to do. I'd really love to find an off-road trail or two to take the Ridgeline on!
Right now I've got one night booked in Flagstaff, then we're planning to go see the Grand Canyon the next day, and stay for 6 more nights in Sedona. This'll be January 11-18. I just found out that the weather isn't any better down there than it is here that time of year. Darn it, here I thought I was going to a desert paradise!
Anyway, if there's anyone who knows the land who'd like to go on a trail run with me, or if you've got any tips or pointers about vacationing in the area that time of year, I'd love to hear it!
Later,
Cool Cat

Hey Cool Cat....
I work in Sedona and I am sure we can hook up with a few of us here in AZ.
The winters, even in Flagstaff, do not compare to WI. It does get cold at night in Flagstaff (single digits at night sometimes) but once south of Flagstaff (i.e. Sedona) it is usually no colder than low 20's at night, mid to upper 40's in daytime.
My email is on my signature. Drop me a line and we can keep in touch. Always willing to meet with another RL owner!!

Thanks meanmachine19. I never knew you guys got that kind of weather down there, I thought the whole state was a desert! Is it the altitudes that bring the colder weather? I was reading about the Grand Canyon, I never knew it was so far above sea level!
It would be great if a group of Ridgelines could get together for a trail run or something! I'm planning to get my 2" lift before I come down, and I'm bringing my extra full size spare (I've got 2) just in case. I'm also looking for a good hitch-mount winch. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to afford new tires before the trip, so I'll be running on my half-worn OEM Michelins.
I'll be spending half the trip in Sedona with my family and the other half in Scottsdale at a business conference (the whole reason for the trip). My family will stay at our condo in Sedona though, unless they get out for some activities.
Can't wait!
If you were to come down Tucson way I could show you some awesome trails.:D
As long as you are in Sedona for a few days, make sure you do the drive to Jerome and then over the mountain to Prescott. Jerome is always fun for a visit.
Prescott was the first capital of Arizona, and there are always lots of things to. Don’t miss the Sharlot Hall museum or just a walk around the courthouse square.
We are a little colder than Sedona, but it’s a great town to visit anytime of the year.
Am I biased? Absolutely! It’s a great place to live.

billvxii 10-12-2006, 12:39 PM If you're going to Scottsdale you should check out Tortilla Flats and the 22 miles of path to Rosevelt dam. Its a graded but fun road and wil bring you out so that you can go out to Payson or up to Globe and Superior and back around to Apace Juction and the Phoenix area. The weather here should be in the 70's in the valley to the 50's in the Payson /Globe area. But its a dry cold, so you should be able to stand it.
coolcat 01-13-2007, 10:38 AM Ok guys, I'm here in Sedona. We've had to rearrange our itinerary a little bit, I'm thinking we'll go to the Grand Canyon tomorrow now. We were going to go yesterday, but I got sick, and the weather wasn't very good anyway. The weather is supposed to be awesome tomorrow.
So for today we're going to hit Sedona and do what we can while we're here. I put a 2" Truxxx lift kit on my Ridgeline last weekend, just in time for this trip, so I'm really hoping to be able to find some off-road trails to take it on.
I'm going to try to email everyone who replied to this thread, I could really use some local advice for what to do!

I may take you up on that. We were surprised to find that the nearest WalMart is in Cottonwood! That's right next to Jerome according to Google Earth. We always pack light on vacation with the intention of hitting a local WalMart to pick up what we need while on the road. We went to the Flagstaff WalMart last night but didn't realize that there wasn't one in Sedona.

coolcat 01-22-2007, 11:46 PM Well, we're home from our trip. I put over 4,500 miles on my Ridgeline in a week and a half!
Sedona was beautiful, though very cold. I got snubbed on Schnebly Hill Rd., darn it. Closed 4 mi. off the pavement. We had fun anyway. Looking forward to returning some day when there's warmer weather!
meanmachine19 01-23-2007, 09:10 AM Hey Coolcat, sorry our schedules conflicted and we didn't hook up. It would have been nice to meet. Hopefully the beauty of AZ will have you coming back for another visit! :D
It's been colder here than usual, but coming from WI I am sure it was not bad. I find May and September to be the best months of the year in terms of 'perfect' weather. A little hotter in June and July, with monsoon season in July/August. So next time shoot for May!
Glad you had a great, safe trip.:p
