Hello All,
Just wanted to share a story of my trip to Laguna Seca last weekend. To start off, one of my friends asked me to be his pit man for the 24 hours of Adrenalin mountain bike race.
So I packed the Ridgline up with camping gear, supplies, tools for two in the back with the seats folded up. Had no problem fitting a 5 gallon jug of water, sleeping bags, two large tents, 5 duffles, 2 mattresses and a bike repair stand in that space.
In the in-bed trunk I fit an 100qt. cooler filled with gatorade and red bull, and still had some space off the side for another sleeping bag.
In the bed, I layed down a 4ft wide table with no problem. I had a Saris in-bed fork mounted bike rack and easily had three mountain bikes standing side by side in the bed with the handlebars towards the rear of the bed. In between the bikes we had the front tires stowed to the front and 3 camping chairs and more supplies to the rear, in between the bike forks.
Needless to say this truck rode smoothly all the way down from Auburn to Salinas without a problem. It only took half a tank to get there.
Once we got to the race we set up camp. To our luck a professional women's race team set up camp right in front of ours. I wasn't racing but I was in heaven. The race team for those who don't know mtb stuff were the Luna Chics, sponsored by Luna Bars made by Clif Bar and Santa Cruz Mountain Bikes. It was great to see these girls in action after reading about them in the magazines. Anyways...I was there to be the pit man for my buddy.
About the race, it was a 13 mile course on the laguna seca raceway. The objective was to get as many laps within 24hours. Very hilly with some steep climbs. My buddy rode Solo (one person) on a Single Speed (bike with only one gear). Most people were riding on relay teams, but not Roger, he did it as a one man team taking minimal breaks in between laps that may have lasted a mere 10 minutes. I made sure he was rehydrated and eating right. To make a long story short. He ended up taking 1st place as National Champion in the Single Speed Solo category and came 2nd overall against geared bikes.
It was a fun trip and the first camping trip in my ridgeline. Just wanted to share. :)
