Mirror lost its bearings today. Started the truck and headed North to get trannie pcm update. Compass read SE the entire 110mi. Couldn't be reset. Dealer had to order a new one. So another trip is in store. Stuff happens.

Failure or reading SE? The bright side: It read right on the way home...kinda like a broken clock being right twice a day. Maybe I could only drive SE till the new one arrives, but then I couldn't go back for the install.;)

It was kinda comical to see the 2 techs keep driving in circles testing it.:D As a dyed in the wool Little Feat fan, I have a rocket in my pocket.

I've always wondered if a compass in a vehicle was worth it, but now that I have navigation on my cell phone, it was neat to see I was traveling west on I-40 EAST. No, I wasn't going the wrong direction. I guess that's mountain driving for you. :D

I need a compass and/or navigation because of what I do. I really, really hate to say this, but..... the compasses in my GMC trucks have a way better display format and have never failed thru the last 10 years and 3 trucks. (sorry) :o

Generally speaking, the factory-installed mirrors with incorporated compasses are produced by Delphi Industries. In the manual, there is a section where initial setting and calibration of the compass is imperative for the owner's specific geographical area. Unfortunately, the dealer never sets this up for the client so in many instances, the compass is slightly inaccurate.

I realize this is an old Thread, but my compass reads North constantly. I figure I should be nearing Santa's Workshop soon. :D

I needed to recal the compass on another vehicle, which was easy enough by driving in a circle 3x. I need to find the RL recal procedure. Hopefully, it's in the Owners Manual.

Same deal with the RL. Mine messed up in the 06. I drove around in circles until it recalibrated itself!!

I have really been going around in circles trying to figure out why my rollover 401K is suddenly becoming a 201K!!;)
