Truckin' 10-15-2006, 04:16 PM Hello to all our HI Ridgeline brothers and sisters. I'm so anxious to hear from you. What island are you on and what was your experience with the earthquake?
It sounds like power outages are fairly widespread, so it may be a while before you can respond. I just want a roll call from all of you to know you are safe.
Truckin'?
Please give more info if you have it and are still here.
TIA
Pug
Truckin' 10-15-2006, 05:52 PM About 7 AM HI time this morning, there was a 6.5 off the coast of the big island. There are many power outages, some structural damage, some road closures due to boulders falling on them or deep cracks, but thus far I haven't heard any reports of injuries. Amend: there are people coming in with broken bones and lacerations, but no deaths reported. Let's hope that holds.
CNN is carrying live news as they gather information.
Thanks Truckin'...
NY times says no threat of tsunami.
Much of Oahu w/o power.
Hope all are OK...
Lingered_I 10-15-2006, 06:01 PM It was a doozy - http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsww/Quakes/ustwbh.php
deem0nessa 10-15-2006, 08:27 PM HOLEYSMOLEY is all i got to say...i live in Kona on the big island and it was the worst quake i ever experienced to date...born and raised here im quite used to quakes but nothing came close to this one...no structure damage to house but things fell of shelves and we have some damage to two rock walls...i got a fat lip from my boyfriend elbowing me in the mouth as he tried to cover me from the falling picture frame as we were both trying to get up to get away from the aquarium that sits near our heads....fishies are fine only swooshes of water swooshed out during the 2nd quake...lots of rock wall rubble on the roads where i live and most people have cleared them out of the roadways...my poor big dog is jittery with all the small aftershock quakes we are still having.....other than that my family including ridgeline are fine as can be....
Pizza Man 10-15-2006, 08:31 PM Good news, deem0nessa. We're happy to hear you and your family are OK. I know there are other ROC members out there and I hope we hear equally good news from them. Keep us posted, I hope the aftershocks subside soon.
deem0nessa 10-15-2006, 08:44 PM a funny thing i want to mention....when this thing hit and power was down for the first half hour or so the only calls that i was able to make were OUT OF STATE ones to the mainland....its wierd that i was calling all mainland friends asking them to please hurry to check usgs site for up to date info and to pass it to me as there was no radio station able to broadcast a signal from here for awhile....i guess what was the erie part was that statewide there was a power outage so we were not able to have radio even from outer island stations....that was really odd to me...

I'm relieved and very glad to hear that all is well as can be for you. Good luck to you and I will say a prayer that all continue to improve.
Truckin' 10-15-2006, 10:17 PM Thanks for being the first from HI to check in. I'm glad you're intact. Go give that dog a hug. This sounds like one that stories will be told about for a long time. I'm anxious to hear from our other HI ROCheads.
Snapshot 10-16-2006, 01:01 AM Hi Everyone in ROC land,
power just came back on in my area of Oahu. check around the house for any damage this morning, but none was found. only thing is that one of my file server hard drive fail to reboot after the power came on. need to replace a hard drive tomorrow.
Thank you, for thinking of us here in hawaii.
alanderego 10-16-2006, 01:14 AM Hey Guys,
I work for HECO and the boss called me in about 1 hour after it occured.
I am still here (12 hours later) waiting for a full recovery of power before they release us to go home...
The earthquake shut down all of the generators on the 3 islands and it is very scary to drive around town especially now it is night...
Talk to you later...
Alan
deem0nessa 10-16-2006, 01:27 AM snapshot and alanderego...glad to see ur posts here and ur both ok....in a way i think you guys on oahu have it harder than us on the big island without the power this long....we had ours back on in a couple hours or so....
Good to hear you are all okay!
Hope Mother Nature got the tantrums out of her system for a long time to come.

BannedUser 10-16-2006, 06:41 AM Yes, I too am glad those who have checked in are fine.
Our thoughts are with you. :)
deem0nessa 10-17-2006, 01:33 AM acks.....our island is now under severe flood watch.....the radio says pahoa on the other side of island from me had 6inches in an hour and Kohala had 4 inches of rain in an hour and theres been high winds too....I hope it isnt too bad for those on the other side of this island....probably will have more landslides with everything loosened up from the quake and the added weight of rain water....
Truckin' 10-17-2006, 10:28 AM That is scary news given the big whammy you just endured. I hope we get some decent news coverage on the mainland.
I'm also hopeful that the rest of the Hawaii ROCers will check in soon.
UglyTruckling 10-17-2006, 11:47 AM acks.....our island is now under severe flood watch.....the radio says pahoa on the other side of island from me had 6inches in an hour and Kohala had 4 inches of rain in an hour and theres been high winds too....I hope it isnt too bad for those on the other side of this island....probably will have more landslides with everything loosened up from the quake and the added weight of rain water....
deem0nessa, snapshot, and alan.... Glad to hear you're all okay, and I hope the rains subside soon.... I have much empathy for you, having been through the Loma Prieta quake here in the Bay Area -- 17 years ago today! I still remember it like it was yesterday -- don't be surprised if this one sticks with you forever, even if you're an "old hand" at earthquakes, the big ones do a number on you. Good luck over there!
(The Loma Prieta hit four days before our wedding -- we had many guests from out of the area cancel because of fear of further quakes; the ones from the Bay Area wanted to be in the company of others after the scary event.... Hope none of you guys are planning a similar event this weekend -- that was wayyyy too much stress for a three day period!)
meanmachine19 10-17-2006, 12:51 PM I am glad to hear everyone on the far western front is doing well.
One of my co-worker's in laws are on vacation there when this hit so he was obviously concerned. Heard from them though a few hours after and was glad to see they were fine too.
I never realized Hawaii region had quakes....knew about volcanoes....
Hope everyone's life gets back to normal with no more shaking or flooding :o
JerseyRidge 10-22-2006, 10:08 AM Hope everything is OK in Hawaii !!! My Prayers have been with you's !!!
Truckin' 10-22-2006, 12:00 PM We still have several HI members who haven't posted that you are OK and back online. I presume all power has been restored to all areas by now. Please check in. Any earthquake stories would be appreciated too.
gadgetz 10-22-2006, 02:49 PM Aloha Everyone!
We just got back from a GREAT week in Oahu. The earthquake was an added adventure. We saw a couple of RL (Silver & White) on Waikiki. We did see a Silver one with Ohio Plates:confused: Ladyridge did you drive over to make sure everyone was okay?:p Thanks to Twintym (Dan & Pam) They made me the very cool "Surfing Snoopy" backpack & Lydia's Towel. The picture that looks very dark is Waikiki with no power and an evening sunset.
Truckin' 10-22-2006, 06:12 PM What timing to have your vacation during the earthquake week. I'm glad all was well so it just adds to your memories of a great time.
