MRFRIDAY 10-24-2006, 08:01 PM Anyone have pics of the install of their overhead lcd . Even if it is a finished install. Looking for someone to give exact measurements from front/ back and from each side to center of bracket where you mount the lcd bracket to.
this is the frame mount where i believe the oem 4 6x12 mm bolts will go
thanks in advance
mugen1 10-25-2006, 12:13 AM I installed an overhead LCD in my RL. I didn't think to measure where exactly the mounting holes were located. I took a guess as to where they would be. I crossed my fingers and cut a slit in the headliner. The chances were slim that I would hit it the first time around, but I lucked out. The slit was bang on. I was going to drop the headliner to find the holes, but looked at the B-Pillar and thought it must be there. Anyway, these are the only two pics I have of the install. The fingers aren't mine (one of my children's) and the blue tape was what I used to make sure everything was lined up. If nobody else has the exact measurements, I will take the monitor off and take measurements.
ChrisM 10-25-2006, 05:40 AM Here are a couple pics of mine. 10.4" 4:3 ratio in the back and 7" widescreen in the front. Doing the LCD in the back was kind of tricky as I couldn't use the OEM mounts because I wanted to mount it as far forward as possible. The DVD player is mounted under the front passenger seat. The XBox is under the back seat.

peterelli 10-25-2006, 12:00 PM Hi,
after I do a little upgrade on my radio, I want to add a overhead LCD for the little one.
Looking to put in a lcd with a dvd built in and fm mod. I have seen units that have all this and headsets.
Can anyone reccomend a unit? Maybe one that swivels? Use factory mounts, which I never new existed until this thread.
I have a sunroof and not sure what this does to my options.
Good places to get'm
Thanks
Peter

Tonnes to choose from. Mine is a Clarion 15 inch. A little too big. Yes, too big is not always a good thing. It does however have picture in picture capability as well as split screen so one source can play on the left side while the right side plays another source. It comes with two wireless headphones. 4 source A/V input selector, remote, front panel controls, external A/V game port and built in dome lights.
The resolution is nowhere as good as the monitor up front (1.3 million pixels), but is right up there with the better screens. The 10 inch Clarion has the swivel feature.
As for mounting LCD monitors, the mounting points on the RL is pretty solid and fabricating adapters is pretty easy to do. I used universal mounting straps to connect the mounting frame of the monitor to the Ridgeline's four mounting holes.
Can't wait for the Nintendo Wii to arrive (November 19th).
MRFRIDAY 10-26-2006, 12:36 AM I wanted to thank all of you for such a rapid repsonse. I really appreciate that Mugen1 was willing to take his lcd down for the measurements. I shows that this board has some hardcore an genuine people.
I bit the bullet and went for it... SUCESS !!! I was a bit apprehensive but after using the tape, I found it with the first try. I basically look at everyones pictures and took off the passenger side B Pillar plastic and found the support beam. Followed it across with tape and did the same from front console light to rear.
I am guilty and was so excited I forgot to take pics or measure. I will though for all future installation. My service guy is trying to get me a template, if so I will scan it so anyone can print it out.
accordingtoome 10-26-2006, 01:21 AM ya i think a 15 is a lil too big.. 10 should be fine but im a sucker for overheads and will mount them anywhere.. hehehee i even put one in my RSX :D
peterelli 10-26-2006, 08:19 AM Thanks for the replies too.
Are the units with built in DVD players OK, I was thinking of a unit with player built into the unit so I won't have to run lines to seperate dvd player.
As far as brackets, I guess you most likely modify the bracket the comes with your lcd unit? I really like the factory mounting plates already welded to the roof.
where are these factory mounts? general location, can u feel them?
Any issues with a sunroof other than keeping it away.
Where do you pull power from? The rear roof light of the cab? Was this difficult?
Any unit I should NOT buy or units to stay away from?
Thanks
Peter
mugen1 10-26-2006, 10:19 AM I would suggeest you run separate power to the unit. The B-Piller is fairly easy to take off. You have lots of room to run wires of all kinds. I don't have experience with the all-in-one units. My preference would be to choose the player and not have to settle for what the monitor came with. Plus, standalone monitors usually come with all kinds of inputs and outputs..... you never know. You might decide later to expand the system.
accordingtoome 10-27-2006, 03:57 AM I installed an overhead LCD in my RL. I didn't think to measure where exactly the mounting holes were located. I took a guess as to where they would be. how is the picture on that LCD?? did you look at any others? Im in the market for a 10inch myself
ChrisM 10-27-2006, 05:21 AM In a vehicle, 7 to 10" screens are plenty big due to the viewing distance and the lack of higher definition inputs to the screens. Neither of my screens has an S Video input. I would think that if I had any larger of a screen that the jaggies and other video noise would be too noticeable for me. I would consider 15" only if you had at least s video inputs or component input and a source capable of outputting those formats. I found that the price jumped way up when you go to those input/output options.
imnfni 10-27-2006, 06:11 AM 37 inch LCD's and 42 inch plasmas have gotten pretty cheap, Im suprised no one has mounted one to the back seats. Really, have you ever tried watching a movie on those things while riding? We have a 7 inch in our Suburban (kid hauler) and I can't stand to watch it, I get car sick. But the kiddies like it and I think even a 10 inch is very large, anything larger than that just shows that you're trying to compensate for something else you have being too small!!!! LMAO...sorry that was lame wasn't it?
mugen1 10-27-2006, 08:00 AM When you have a split screen or pic in pic, the screen has to be larger. Besides, with the rear sliding window of the RL, a person can play from the bed without squinting. 4 players easy with me watching the screen up front. Not that I play very much. All three of my kids beat me at just about every game. I grew up with pong. What can I say?
As for the compensating comment....... uh, that wasn't only lame. It was..... nevermind.
imnfni 10-27-2006, 08:04 AM Yeah I know, it was pretty bad. I remember the Pong days. Then when Dig Dug and Pole Position came to the Atari 2600, you were the thing if you had it.
biglg 12-16-2008, 08:08 AM Has anyone found an overhead that matches the darker gray interior/headliner? i am looking for one with the dvd player built in and i do have a sunroof.
Any recomendations would be great. Thanks.
