Polk db650's or db6500's? Any Difference?

I'm just wondering if anyone has tried both of these speakers in the front door and if they could tell a difference in sound. I bought an amp to push whichever set I buy but if I can save $40-50 and some installation time because there's not a lot of difference between the 2, I'm all for it.

I'd really like to hear from people who have had both and not just people saying how great their's are because I know they both sound good, but I need to know if one sounds significantly better. I know a lot of people have the Components in the front and Coaxials in the back and if you can give an honest opinion of the difference I would appreciate it.

the components has better crossovers and flexible imaging, hence they will sound better

the pros of the coaxials are ease of intallation, a pair of wires and you're all set

i have the db650s in all 4 doors, crossed @80hz, they sound great

sorry, i don't have the components but for the $50.00 difference, they are worthed

don't forget, your head unit matters too

Unless you plan on competing go with the coaxials and you will never know the difference I think. I have run components for my last 3 vehicles (last truck had custom 3-way) and it is a huge pain in the butt to install and troubleshoot if you have a problem later (you go from 2 connections per side to 10 for each side). And while I will agree that the components do sound slightly better, you are way past the point of dimishing returns on your time and investment. If you can live with sound that is 90% as good as components I would get the coaxials. I have the Db650s and am very impressed by their clarity.

Thanks for the reply. Definitly not competing. I was at Bestbuy the other day listening to their Infinity speakers and they had the Components right above the coaxials and i thought the coaxials sounded a little better both with an amp and without, just seemed like I could here more sounds from them. But I'm not getting Infinity speakers so it didnt help me much. Circuit City carries the Polks but they had the sound board completely dismantled, so no help there either.

Yes I know sounds different in a car than in a stereo shop, which is why i wanted to hear from people on here that have heard the speaker first hand in their vehicle.

I have the polk components db6500's and looked at both. The components did sound better on the board I was listening on at Fry's. I also previewed the Momo series and they sounded better too, but got a killer deal on the 6500's.

I found the install on the RL fairly easy (after getting the right hole saw). Hardest part was mounting the crossover.

There are plentys of posts in the door speakers thread about how to do it and lots of pictures.

I think the tweeters mounted higher brings the sound stage up a bit. However, I am still using the stock H/U and find the highs to be a bit bright/harsh and can be tiring after a while of being loud. Now, not bsure if that is the eq curve on the H/U or the speakers themselves (has been a criticism by others)

I dynamted the doors and get great bass response from just the polks. Still running stock rears and faded heavy to front speakers.

so I would recommend the components, easier to install than you think. I have very low skill and was able to do it

Are you using an Amplifier at all or just running the components straight off the HU?

Fredridge...it looks like you did not install an external amp. Do you find that the built-in amp of the stock HU has enough juice to run the Polk separates?

I am not currently running an amp, I do find the stock HU has "enough" power to run them. Depending on what I am playing they sound pretty clean up to about 30 on the dial.

However, I will be adding an amp, already have one 60% installed, need to finish wiring, but really waiting until I get a sub in and have been on hold until I can get something for behind the seat. ED's sq10 or proboxloaded whichever comes out first.

I have my ams mounted to the floor underneath back seat with cutouts in the underseat storage system. You can see the tops of them and they are solid on top and old so I don't care how scratched they get, but still leaves me most of the storage space
