Finished my 07 RTL

I finally finished my work on the RTL. I took out the everything that was stock audio and started fresh. I added a Eclipse AVN5500 Nav/DVD HU, Sirius, Eclipse backup camera, PAC unit to keep the steering wheel controls, Polk DB6500's in the front and DB650's in the rear, Alpine MRP-F450 4 channel to run the speakers and a older Fosgate mono that I had running a single 10 under the rear seat. It all came togather well and sounds better than what I expected. Both amps and the Sirius tuner are behind the rear seat which really saved space. The tweeters also mounted flush in the door which I was very happy about. I tried to get the Eclpise Ipod adapter to work as well but for some reason it just wouldn't work right with the Sirius tuner hooked up. Sorry if some of the pics came out crappy, it was pretty sunny out today.

wow no housing for the camera? Thats kinda scary for such an investment of time and money? I love the head unit. I have the 5435 and sometimes wish I would ave picked up the one with the hard drive but overall I am very happy. The tweeters are beautiful there. That may be the next project. What kind of amp is supplying power for them? NIce ride.

I didn't really think about putting a housing around it just because its next to the plate and its recessed into the bumber but it would be something to think about. The 5435 is almost the same thing as the 5500. I had actually bought the 5435 and returned it because the PAC unit wasn't compatable and I really wanted to keep the steering wheel comtrols since it was the first car I have had that had them. The amp is an Alpine MRP-F450 that puts out 70x4 and sounds great. I got it from crutchfield for 299. I think having the tweeters in the door helps alot as well.

Very nice work. I'm torn between the 5500 and the Pioneer AVIC-Z1. The AVIC has a bigger screen, but the 5500 has more pushbutton controls, and the Sirius interface looks like there's more info on the screen.

Decisions, decisions.

I hear the pioneer has a better nav program but I am definately happy with the eclipse.

Nice.

I have the Eclipse AVN 5495, and I have not found a NAV system that I like better. NAV off the hard drive is the way to go. I just got the BEC 106 backup camera today. I want to know, how did you mount your camera? I was thinking of modifying the tailgate rail to retain the camera, but I would have to modify the rail system to allow for insetting the camera into the rail, but before I start, I want to know how you did yours near the license plate. Did you cut your bumper to mount the camera into the bumpter, or is mounted on the outside of the bumper?

I didn't have to cut into the bumper and just used the mounting bracket that came with it. There is a pick on it on the 1st page of this thread that will show you.

I have found my Eclipse 5500 to have a very easy to use nav program. Its the same nav program you find in all toyotas and lexus automobiles, since eclipse makes the system for them.

I would say that Eclipse is miles ahead in sound quality over Pioneer.
And its also much, much cheap, so why not?

Here is another option for the camera mounting. This is actually the standard Honda OEM camera mounted "through" the bumber. It uses the standard mount (without the external cap). It helps if your state name has an "O" in the middle of it :)
