Ok, we had a great first ever Gulf Coast meet (Abita Brewery) and now is the time to get meet 2 organized and set up.

Post your suggestions of location and/or activity and date if activity is dependent on date. It would be better to think of places that will have room for group parking.

One possible:
Baton Rouge, LA --- Meet at the LSU Stadium parking lot, have something to eat at "Walk ons" ( http://www.walk-ons.com/ ) or another restaurant and or go to Casino Rouge ( http://www.casinorouge.com/ )

Post your thoughts and suggestions.....

Hittin' from the other extreme end of Spanish West Florida, I'll suggest a bona fide poker run with the Biloxi-Gulfport casinos as the stop points.

But I really won't make a serious suggestion for the Mississippi side for a bit. Obviously, it's a long way until the 2007 Cruisin' the Coast, which would be an ideal rally, but there may be a "Scrapin' the Coast" in the spring for the lowrider pickup faction. Always fun to watch 'em rip their exhaust systems off on speed bumps... :D

I would be interested in a meet. The FL Panhandle, ie Pensacola Beach, would be a great loctaion as well (biased I am, but it truly is a beautiful plaace). But I'm open to anywhere within a few hours drive.

I might be interested in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. The Naval Air Museum and the Flora/Bama are nice places to visit. Rates are reasonable this time of year.

I imagine if we got a rough number of people who were to attend, we might be able to get a group rate somewhere in the FL/AL border area. Ditto on what he said about the Museum and Flora/Bama club.:)

For that matter, The USS Alabama (Mobile, AL) has a huge parking area and what a great background. Plus the 2 forts in the area along with Bellingrath Gardens.

I've pretty much posted mine. Still waiting on Cajun & Cajun Country Ridgeline to get theirs up here.

To 25YHO, the Redneck Riviera -- anywhere on the Eastern Shore in Lower Alabama is cool with us at some point for a gathering -- since it's only about 3 hr "through the woods" from here. Ms. Djeaux is the Gulf Shores/LA expert around here since she spends a week or two there as a condo commando every summer. We always eat at a place in Perdido, but I can't recall the name. Lulu's (restaurant owned by Jimmy Buffet's sister) is a good one, too. Mullet tossing at the Flora-Bama is always strange. The drawback is that after the middle of February, it becomes a Spring Break hot spot. Of course, that might go over big with some ROC heads... ;)

Mississippi/Alabama coast sounds fine, but would probably have to be in the spring for me to be able to attend. Work, family and holidays will have me tied up for the rest of this year. Agree, with k757 that next meet needs to be in a more open area for photo ops.

One of the reasons that LA (Lower Alabama) is called "Redneck Riviera" is the FloraBama Lounge. Buy a lottery ticket in Florida and take a step West and order a cold beer in Alabama. :) http://www.florabama.com/

Just checked the rates on a 1BR Phoenix condo at Perdido Pass, 3 nights for $280. Not bad.

Well, here on the Mississippi Coast a bunch of folks are still po'd at Jimmy Buffet for taking the beloved Firedog Saloon in Bay St. Louis, disguising it as the post-Ivan FloraBama & then using the resulting video to raise relief money for New Orleans.

But 3 nights at Perdido for $93/night ain't bad. At all!

Hey, I didn't say we were po'd at the FloraBama & probably not at Jimmy for very long. Lulu's (run by Jimmy's sister) is now in Gulf Shores after having a long & checkered history up in Fairhope.

Some things I came up with off the top of my head....

--- Mobile, AL ---
1) USS Alabama (plenty of parking) ( http://www.ussalabama.com/ ) There has to be a good restaurant around there.
2) Bellingrath Gardens (really nice place, lots of options of stuff to see/do plus a restaurant on site)
http://www.bellingrath.org/home/
http://www.bellingrath.org/admission-rates.html

--- Baton Rouge, LA ---
Meet at the LSU Stadium parking lot, have something to eat at "Walk ons" ( http://www.walk-ons.com/ ) or another restaurant and or go to Casino Rouge ( http://www.casinorouge.com/ )

--- Pensacola, FL ---
1) Naval Air Museum on NAS Pensacola http://naval.aviation.museum/home.html,
2) McGuire's Pub http://www.mcguiresirishpub.com/

Do these places have anything to offer?
1) Gulfport, MS
2) Jackson, MS
3) Biloxi, MS
4) Pascagoula, MS
5) New Orleans, LA (severe lack of parking in the French Quarter)
6) Hattiesburg, MS

Post your Comments and/or Suggestions

With Mobile, we can easily get more attendees from western FL and AL

Hi all. I just got my Ridgeline yesterday (I have had it for almost 10 hours now). Too bad I just missed your first get together. As long as I am free you can count me in for the next meet. I have been to several of the places around Mobile that you mention as possible locations for the next meet. I have to say that the Pensacola Air Museum is REALLY cool.

I look forward to meeting other RL owners!

My very first photo and now. Wow, look at those changes... geez, a completely different truck :D

Gulfport-Biloxi needs to be considered as a continuous metro area (beach run down Highway 90). The big attractions are, of course, the longest man-made beach in the world & a bunch of casinos. That's why I suggested a poker run from casino to casino. It wouldn't be hard to arrange the card pick-up from the valet parking folks & the casino PR people would likely throw in goodies. I'm not a gambler, but off-hand (going west-to-east from Gulfport to Biloxi) we have the Island View, Treasure Bay, Beau Rivage, Grand Casino, Isle of Capri, IP, Palace & Boomtown. That's enough for draw poker. Mrs. Djeaux has connections at Island View & I have a former student who does PR work at the Grand. If planned in conjunction with a good show at one of the casino theaters, it would be very nifty.

"The Pascagoula Run" is a Jimmy Buffett song, but other than a nice quiet residential beach front, there's not much there. Hattiesburg is the same, unless driving by Faith Hill's house or Brett Favre's house counts for anything.

Don't leave a vehicle unattended in Jackson MS. It will not be there when you return. But there is the Ross Barnett Reservoir & the Natchez Trace Parkway north of town. (This brings up a long-range suggestion which would be a two-day drive up the Trace -- speed limit 50 mph -- from Natchez to Tupelo with stops to see such things as the antebellum houses & Elvis' birthplace.)

Mobile is interesting & would draw out of the Florida Panhandle as well as Lower Alabama. The Battleship Alabama is out on the causeway, always a good backdrop & if you cross to the Eastern Shore, there's always Fairhope, a nice artsy town with some good eats & a little farther down the road is Orange Beach & Gulf Shores.

Maybe we need to get T Mac to rename this the "Spanish West Florida ROC" since that would cover everything from Pensacola over to the Florida Parishes in Lousiana...

I'm all for Biloxi as well...lots of hotel rooms, multiple entertainment choices(gambling or shows), and if this were to be planned for March or later the option to take a charter boat out for some deep sea fishing. Also, Hwy 90 is a great leisurely drive with plenty of restaurants (IIRC) as well. Mobile or Pensacola would be fine, but I would actually prefer something a little further from me so it would be more of a 'trip' than just a ride.

Somebody make a decision and let's get things rolling!

we are slightly partial to the Mobile area. There is a lot to see and do in the area.

A large attraction would allow for more parking spaces.

If it takes place in the Spring, Bellingraph Gardens would have a beatufitul spring flower foliage.

The Fla. panhandle has many attractions. We use to have Regional meetings over there all the time.
For the Ladies, around Foley AL. is a very large Factory Outlet Mall.

Hopefully, the drive will not be over 7 hours for the people who live the greatest distance.

If you are talking about MS, Vicksburg MS. with the huge Civil War Memorials at the Cementary.

New Orleans, with the Nat Guard still posted down there, has kept us from even visiting friends right now.

I guess make a list of places and we can vote on the top three.
Later, vote for the # 1 choice.

OK, so Pascagoula, Jackson and Hattiesburg are not ideal.... I would consider them out.

Djeaux, see if you and the Mrs can plan out something with the casinos. That sounds REALLY COOL, I'd even stay overnight at one of the casinos and catch some evening shows and such. I would think this might take some time, so keep planning that out (whatever you come up with) and whenever that can be accomplished, we'll do it!!!

Mobile (USS Alabama) & Fairhope can be done at anytime and looks like the front-runner.

I can suggest several places depending on what everyone wants to eat. On the Causeway just down from the battleship are several good seafood places. If seafood doesn't sound good there is a nice italian place in Fairhope. If that doesn't work there are always the chain type places.
