Amp'd Factory HU vs Aftermarket HU

I'd love to keep the factory radio and just add some amps and some aftermarket speakers but dont want it to still sound so bad at high volumes.

Has anyone else tried the factory radio first then went to aftermarket HU and noticed a difference?

My biggest problem with the factory radio as it is, is that you lose all treble, it seems, at high volumes. I would "think" adding and amplifier via a stepdown and adding better speakers would solve this, I may be wrong, just looking for some advice.

I already have an amp for door speakers, Mtx rt4260 if that helps any. I has available high pass input too.

I have not done what you describe but I think adding new speakers alone will improve your sound. I'm assuming from your post that you will be adding new speakers if/when you add an amp. I really don't think you would just add an amp and use the existing speakers...this would be a bad decision. :cool:

I'm going with polk door speakers. The amp should push the 650's or the 6500's pretty good. Havent decided on which to get for the front yet. That's another forum I waiting for info on.
