Gulfport-Biloxi needs to be considered as a continuous metro area (beach run down Highway 90). The big attractions are, of course, the longest man-made beach in the world & a bunch of casinos. That's why I suggested a poker run from casino to casino. It wouldn't be hard to arrange the card pick-up from the valet parking folks & the casino PR people would likely throw in goodies. I'm not a gambler, but off-hand (going west-to-east from Gulfport to Biloxi) we have the Island View, Treasure Bay, Beau Rivage, Grand Casino, Isle of Capri, IP, Palace & Boomtown. That's enough for draw poker. Mrs. Djeaux has connections at Island View & I have a former student who does PR work at the Grand. If planned in conjunction with a good show at one of the casino theaters, it would be very nifty. If a one/two night package came available, I would definitely stay over!
Any more thoughts/progress on this idea Djeaux?
I could drop a few dollars in the slots :D and enjoy some evening lounge entertainment.

Not a lot of time to think more about it with the semester winding down. I think this might be something to pursue next spring. If we had several trucks committed, it's usually not too hard to get a casino to work out a package deal. Best bet will be for me to follow the "Marquee" in the local paper so we might could have it coincide with a good show at one of the casino theatres.

THAT WOULD BE FUN!!!!!!
For a bigger event, we could easily pull trucks from AL, AR, GA, FL, LA, MS and maybe NC, SC, TN, TX
who doesn't like casinos? :D If a bigger event can get going, there has to be a Biloxi/Gulfport Honda dealer that would want in on it.

Pat Peck is the Honda dealer in Gulfport. I don't have any personal clout with them, as I buy my Hondas from Vardaman in Hattiesburg. But Pat Peck might be interested in "free publicity." Their location doesn't lend itself to a meet'n'greet, though, as they have a pretty crowded lot in a congested traffic area. We can work on that at some future point, though :)

djeaux 11-17-2006, 05:41 PM There is already "Cruisin' the Coast" (a massive event for street rodders) & "Scrapin' the Coast" (a smaller event for low-riders & tuners). A lot of Civic & Accord guys get into "Scrapin'"...
djeaux 12-04-2006, 01:20 PM After talking with Just ASK Saturday, I realized that I might need to explain the "poker run" concept a little better. Around here, poker runs are pretty popular with bike clubs, so maybe I ass-u-me'd too much ;) Here goes:
Prior to the run, a ROC point-person (who will remain nameless until I tell her she's been voted as local arrangements chairperson) will visit either 5 or 7 casinos' event directors. Hopefully, we can get them to ante up some goodies for prizes, but at the least we need them to donate one deck of cards & let us give an instruction sheet to their valet parking staff.
We can either require everyone participating in the run to check in & get an event sticker, or we can simply require that they have a ROC window sticker on their truck. Everybody who confirms attendance will receive a map showing where the 5 (or 7) casinos are located & where the end of rally venue (restaurant, barbecue, sleazy roadhouse or WalMart parking lot) is located.
Beginning at whatever designated time is designated, everyone takes off on the tour of the disaster area, making a drive-thru at each of the casinos on the map. At each casino, the valet staff deals the driver of a stickered truck one card from the house deck. Once everyone gets to the end of rally site, the truck with the highest poker hand wins grand prize. If we have only 5 stops, then it's stud poker; if there are more stops, then each crew gets to discard what they want to & present their best 5-card hand.
With a decent number of confirmed attending, we could probably get a decent group rate at one of the casino hotels & that opens up a host of possibilities such as shows, one-armed bandits, or just hanging in a coffee shop or lounge. For group photos, I'd propose one of the larger parking areas on the beach rather than the parking garage at the Beau Rivage, but to each his (or her) own.
April or May would be the earliest we could assemble something like this, but we do need to know there's sufficient DEFINITE interest to justify the amount of legwork it would take to set things up. I'd also like opinions about whether a "registration fee" would be out of line, since it would be nice to have event stickers & we'd need a little $$$ to make sure there would be a kewpie doll even if the casinos don't want to comp us anything.
Again regarding dates, I'll have to check against other events (I don't think this would mix well with Spring Break, but folks might enjoy it if it could coincide with some other events or concerts or whatnot), but if there's some serious interest in this, I can put some dates out either over the holidays or shortly thereafter as a poll here & see what folks think...
Personally, I don't have the energy to engineer a "V-TEC rally" for any Honda or Acura automobiles as Keith suggested, but if a combined ROC/EOC thing has general support here, I can put some feelers out at EOC...

Cool idea!
Djeaux, you could create a poll to see how much interest exists, then you would have raw data. Plus post to other bordering groups/states so they know :)
I have no doubt that the Civic owners would attend en mass as on the 8th Gen civic board, we have a meet scheduled for early January and have 17 confirmed already. I guess there are a lot of Civic owners, but a lot of them are young'ins. Maybe keep the invites to Honda Trucks/SUVs
otherwise you could do the "add to the list" method
1) DJeaux
2) K757 - Baton Rouge, LA
