Indy 500 - Danika Patrick. Hot or not, she's fast. I watched the qualifying on tv and she would have had the pole if she didn't bobble on lap one. Besides, she drives a Honda powered car.

Coke 600 - I'm a life-long Rusty Wallace fan. My ESPN fantasy picks are:

Gordon
Stewart
Newman
R. Wallace
Kvapil

My picks are tempered by the fact that Jimmie Johnson is on my blacklist and I'll never pick him. It hurts my chances but I don't care. Jimmie Johnson sucks.

Danica came in 4th. Not too shabby. She also gets the honor of being the first woman to ever lead the race. She had a good shot at it after the second to last restart from caution but I guess her fuel situation wouldn't let her run it out to the end.

I watched most of the race today--certainly the most exciting 500 I've ever seen. That young woman is very much the "ice queen" isn't she. Yeah she's cute, but I doubt if she's any fun! Made it close at the end tho after she'd dropped way-back to 16th.

I don't care much for sports anymore, and haven't watched an Indy race in a long time, but it was most interesting today to note that the engines were built by Honda and Toyota!!!!!!? Someone commented that ONE of the cars had a Chevy engine? Whahappend to Ford? Jeez.

Gotta brush-up some more on my Japanese; they'll take over the world Yet!

Honda engines definitely dominated that race...only honda, toyota and a few GM engines in Indy. Also looks like Andretti racing and Letterman-Rahal will dominate this year! Patrick could have won without a couple rookie mistakes :(
Oh ya go Gordon and Johnson ;)

Amazing race for Danica.
Best 500 in awhile because of her.
Again, Honda rules!
My guy is gone in the 600.
"C3PO" Johnson does suck.
Good bet in this race, though.

I think the girl done good in the race. I felt that it was a ploy for some extra media attention to let her lead the race. I saw a yahoo sports headline that read "Wheldon Holds Off Patrick, Wins Indy 500" when it should have read "Wheldon blows away Patrick, Wins Indy 500". I guess the writers didnt see the last 10 laps of the race. I guess they were biased because they think the girl is hot. Thats just my opinion. Im not biased, even though my last name is also Patrick.

...I felt that it was a ploy for some extra media attention to let her lead the race...Oh, come on now. I said to my wife, who slept thru the race (!) that it was amazing to me how she was "out of it", then a few guys went into the pits, and coming out all-of-a-sudden she was the leader! I mean, there wasn't any of this "if this happens then that happens then Danica is in it" at all. Everyone seemed surprised that she was in the lead w/what 8 laps to go.

Anyway I think she messed-up big time when she spun-out; the media did give her a pass on that mistake.

Then again it's hard to know what's happening at 220mph! I've been to Indy a few times--one can't possibly imagine what those speeds are like unless you've been there to witness them. "The greatest spectacle in racing" indeed!

I don't think she needed to lead for extra media attention. ;)
Just a great story, for a sport people aren't watching.
Wheldon is a great racer and Danica is a rookie.
He would probably have won w/o her fuel issues.
Great job anyway, the IRL needs her.
Oh yeah, the 600 is NEVER going to end!

I wonder how many NASCAR fans who watched both races are objective enough to realize what a great race the Indy 500 was, and what a joke the Coke 600 was.

First, the 500. The only rookie mistake Danika Patrick made was the spinout. Stalling the car in the pits, even the best of them do that, in all kinds of racing. Most rookies never recover from that kind of mistake. I thought she drove a great race. Wheldon set her up, but he passed her a little too early. If she had enough fuel for the last two laps, she would have iced him. She'll win a race this year.

22 cautions. I thought I was watching the Bristol night race. Little E, what in tarnation is wrong with you??? Rule #1 of bump drafting is don't do it in a turn. What an idiot. If I was Michael I would have beat the crap out of him. This wasn't a race, it was a demo derby. I can't believe the #24 got hit by a piece of the track again . What are the odds of that? The highlight of my night was when Jimmie Johnson got out of his car and was serenaded by boos. It's about time.

Actually the "Chevy engine" is really a Ford. A couple of years ago GM was losing to Honda and Toyota at every IRL race. So in desperation they turned to Cosworth (FORD) who made them a engine and GM slapped a "Chevy" sticker on it. Quite a controversy at the time.

Happy B-day Kid, have a couple of Molson Bradors on me.

Bellteck, What great night you must of had. Down in pit lane and up in the the VIP suites. You do this for every race at Charlotte?

Great shots, Bellteck. I sent the AI shot to my son, he'll love it. Maybe I'll see you at a race sometime.

Hey all. Had a great day at the 500. More later. Best wishes Bruno for a speedy recovery. A.J. almost got into me before the race but it was Grandpa in the golfcart with Larry and IV as passengers. Dangerous!
