Electric Scissor Jack

I am currently speaking with Sebstian at UPC Inc, the parent company of Generator Depot who distributes these jacks.

Another ROC member posted his pics of this jack and his experience. http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11889

Now our conversation will set up ROC as a dealer so individuals can order on their own and no one will be held accountable for ordering. All you will have to do is call and tell them ROC to get special pricing. Pricing has not been set yet but it looks like to be wholesale.

I'll keep you posted.

It won't be until the new year. I'm told wholesale which I would think in the 40-50 range but that is just a guess.

T Mac is helping me on this set up. It is a little different from others and it would also be for everyhting that UPC Inc sells and manufactors. So it could be a great thing for more then the jack.

I know they sell generators, camping equipment and some other items. One of their dealers that sell UPC Inc items is Camping World.

Is it the 2 ton jack. There are only a few out there and the 1 ton is only 59.99. It also only has a height of 14 inches. The electric makes it so much quicker. i plan to use it instead of my floor jack which only raises 16" and need to put a 4x4 under it raise up enough.

The one that Fingerhut has (I believe) is the 1 ton jack, not the 2 ton jack that boxsky is working the deal on. GeneratorDepot.com has the 1 ton model for $59.99. One critical difference, aside from the weight capacity, is that the maximum lift height is only 13.75 inches for the 1 ton. The 2 ton model goes to 17 inches.

boxsky
01-02-2007, 01:25 PM
Ok, got all the info today.
The price of them will be 52.95 each. However they will need to be ordered thru me, shipped to me and then shipped to you. They want us to buy quantities of them and will not discount them the way they orginially said.

Now the shipping from them to me is the problem. It is very expensive to order just 5 of them. The min order needs to be 30 to make it worth while for us. Then I would need to add shipping to you.

So it break down like this 52.95 + 10 (S/H them) + 7-10 (S/H me) = 69.95 - 72.95 approx. This would save you about 10% from direct ordering from them.

Before I put out 1800.00 I will need deposits on them. So now who is interested?

I changed out the flat in the winter the old fashioned way, trying to find the Ford OEM jack behind the seat, on my back releasing the spare stored under the bed, of course the carrier was all rusted and such. It seemed like hours cranking the jack, trying to bust free the lugs with the little lug wrench was a pain. All this on a busy road, not good.

Now that I'm prepared, I will never get a flat:(

Oh, the electric jack is powered by a 12 volt DC motor geared to a large threaded bolt. Cold weather should not effect it, just a little grease on the threaded bolt should be all you need!

I got mine on Friday. I couldn't wait for a flat tire to test it so I ripped the box open like a 7 year old would at Christmas and whipped it under my truck for a test drive. I had the ignition off and used one of the front lighter sockets. I was pleasantly surprised by 2 things.

1. The motor speed barely slowed down when it started lifting up the truck even with the engine not running. I would have thought that it would have strained a little harder with the weight of the truck. This shows me that this jack was built right.

2. The motor on the jack did not even get warm to the touch after jacking my RL all the way up and almost immediately down. This again shows that this product was built with quality parts.

After using the OEM jack for my "the jacked up truth" thread and then comparing it to this jack, I came to one conclusion. Buying and using this jack vs. the OEM jack is a "no brainer." This jack is better in every way than the OEM jack. The jack saddle is more compatible with the RL jacking points and the base has 10 times the area of the OEM jack. I feel much more comfortable putting a piece of wood under this jack to make up for the height deficit than the puny OEM jack base. This jack would be a better jack for the RL even if it were not motorized. Not having to physically operate the jack besides pushing a button is icing on the cake. If you are not that strong or are small of stature, you must buy this jack. The OEM jack takes quite a bit of effort to operate. Trust me, I know.

If you haven't bought this jack yet and have the money, you should not hesitate. It is worth every penny and then some. This jack is so good, I'm thinking of buying one for all of my cars. I did a demo of the operation of the jack for my wife. She usually frowns on all the crap I buy. Not this time. She tried to take this jack from me and put it in her car.

If you have to ever use the OEM jack in a pinch, you will curse yourself for not having one of these. Until you try it, you really don't know how crappy the OEM jack is.

The person who found this product should get some sort or award for best accessory addition to the RL.

I appreciate the ROC sticker but since I have one displayed and a back up, how about seeing if Boxsky would like to have it for his work on getting the discount.

I made a 1" extention that eliminates the need for the piece of wood under the jack. Let me know what you think.

http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12552

Boxsky, please PM me your address so I can send you a ROC sticker.

I checked out your fix to the problem. I like it. I think that I'll do something similar. Your solution fits in the trunk a little easier than a 2 X 6. I may add a twist to your solution though. Stay tuned....

Any machinests here? It doesn't look like it would be too difficult to make a replacement for the factory lift pad, but 1-2 inches taller? I can't see in the pics how the round pad attaches to the bracket and I'm too tired right now to go out and look. :)
Anyway, I'd pay a fair price for one like that.

If it were a taller metal pad, to replace the factory one, I'd be interested in seeing a prototype and price. I still haven't went out and looked at the one on the jack to see if it's feasible to replace it.
I'm talking about the rounded pad that actually contacts the vehicle.

Takes about 7 days, but really depends where you live. The discount is good till end of Feb.

As for a pad, I'm thinking f sonething similiar to ONDLINKS but usean epoxy base filler. I don't want to add it perm because it won't fit well into the case.

$72 is cheap enough, even though I have a little hydralic jack that works fine (also with a 2x6 underneath, however) and I keep it neatly out of the way under the rear seat. I also have a big racing jack in the garage that lifts the entire front or rear end and I use that in conjunction with my jack stands for tire rotations. But hey, you can't have too many tools around. I must also say that they have one of fastest websites to order from (took me 5 minutes tops). They even send the tracking number when the items are shipped and that is a nice touch. Add to all this the free shipping and no sales tax, buying this jack was a no brainer. Thanks OP.

I look at it this way. We all have been carrying the OEM jack and a few more days shouldn't hopefully matter. Unless you are the one to get a flat:(

I called and spoke with Jordan in Cust Serv. He said the shipment I was told about, did come in on Fri, the 23rd...But that shipment did not have any of the 2 ton jacks on it. For some reason the shipment was split into 2. He couldn't understand why. Also said the next shipment should be in soon.. Maybe tomorrow or early next week, and said the jacks will definately be on this shipment.

So, it looks like at least another week out. I just need to be patient. That's hard for me when I pay for something, I like to have it quickly.... LOL

I wish I hadn't waited so long to order this...I could have used it a few weeks ago. My daughter called me on my cell..."Daddy I have a flat tire". It was only about 15 degrees w/windchill of about zero. I was out and it wasn't convenient for me to stop home for my floor jack..What a piece of crap the factory jacks are. I think the jack in her Cutlass Supreme is worse than what is in our Ridgelines.

I saw what appears to be the same jack (2 ton on the actual package) in our local Harbor Freight store for $59.xx. Here's the jack in their online catalog (priced at $69.99). While it kind of appears to be the same jack, the published maximum lift heights differ, so I can't say with certainty that it is the same jack. If it is, 59 bucks is a great deal.

Ps. If they are charging us without shipping the product immediately, they are in direct violation of their Visa agreement -- if you paid by Visa (page 11, "Delivery of Goods and Services" -- card-not-present transactions)

Page 44 clearly states in "Information on when credit cards are charged." You should not bill the customer until merchandise has been shipped.

I called them twice, and both times they told me the jacks would be in by the end of the week....I realize they have no control over when a shipment comes in, but I don't think they should bill you for an item they don't have, and they could send out a mass Email to let customers know about further delays.

I also forgot to add last week that I got a call from the shipping dept. on Wednesday morning saying that the container was delayed and they expected it in on the 12th and would begin to fill the orders then.

Now I am just waiting to get it, so that I can play with my new toy :D !!!!!

Only 25 days after placing my order and 24 days after my credit card was billed. I have finally recieved my electric scissor jack and emergency flashlight. I got the products and credit card bill the same day..Go figure.

I know when a product is out of stock, there isn't much a seller can do. But I read others that recieved Email, or phone calls about the delay in the shipment of these jacks. I made 2 phone calls, 1st was the day my card was charged, and was told the shipment would be in by the end of the week. The 2nd was the following week, and was told that shipment was delayed, but DEFINATELY would be in by the end of that week....Did not happen.

I think If they called and/or Emailed any customers, They should have contacted all of us who had been billed and not recieved our merchandise!

BTW the jack and emergency flashlight seem to be decent products. But a warning to others: don't order anything that this company shows as not in stock, if you expect to recieve it in a timely manner.

That's true?
It amazes me how much a merchant (Visa) can stipulate to those who pay for the services. I guess I'm old fashioned, but I expect anyone I'm paying money to to accomodate me!
Ask my doctor. She understands who's paying for her services. She works at a HMO, and she's a good doctor.
Ask Bill Me Later.
Sorry, I'm a little annoyed with CC companies right now.
I agree they shouldn't charge you before they ship the product. But McDonalds does it too, don't they? ;)

Has anyone checked the fuses in the jack they just received? Mine came with a broken fuse in the remote control fuse holder. I also noticed that both the installed fuse and spare in the remote control along with the fuse installed in the lighter plug-in were small amperage fuses. I could not find a amperage rating on the fuses but the looked like about one half the rating of the spare 15 amp fuses furnished. I replace all the small amperage fused with the 15 amp spare fuses furnished.

There's a potential for quite a rat hole here, but what the heck...
That's true?
Yes, see reply #160 in this thread for a link to a Visa document.
It amazes me how much a merchant (Visa) can stipulate to those who pay for the services. I guess I'm old fashioned, but I expect anyone I'm paying money to to accomodate me!
Sounds like maybe you're a merchant, let's for the moment assume that you are...

1) As a merchant, you need to make an informed decision if accepting Visa helps or hurts your business. If you decide that accepting Visa helps, you enter into a binding contract with Visa which requires you both to play by the rules set forth by the contract. You DO NOT enter into the contract THEN complain and/or not follow the rules!

2) As a merchant, using your own reasoning, you're the one to accommodate ME, right? Taking money from me and giving me nada for some indeterminate amount of time annoys ME, similar to the way you're annoyed at the CC companies. But I have a choice, as do you. I can go elsewhere, just as you can go elsewhere for credit card services if you don't like Visa's rules.

What's sauce for the goose...
I agree they shouldn't charge you before they ship the product. But McDonalds does it too, don't they? ;)
That's a card-present transaction, completely different animal as you can see if you look at the document I pointed to in reply #160. In addition, they're not going to charge you for a burger if they're currently out of them and they're not expecting the truck for another three days...

There's always one. :p Defender of the american way, indeed.
No. I'm not a merchant. If I were, I'd probably go broke.
I have no personal troubles with visa. I'm a cardholder in good standing, except that I always pay the entire balance. I know that's not fair, but they get plenty of money from the merchants imo. Merchants who, by the way, often don't have a real choice as to whether or not to accept CC's and debit cards.
My annoyance stems mostly from the way they take advantage of unsophisticated (mostly young) people. Abolishing bankruptcy has really emboldened the money lenders, hasn't it.
Everything else is mostly blah blah blah, because I agreed that they shouldn't charge before they ship.
Sorry my friend, but you got so excited that you didn't thouroughly read my post before formulating your reply. That's okay.
I probably should have replied by email or pm. I'll not discuss this further.

I can see the appeal, but I still prefer the electric scissor jack. Many of the floor type hydraulic jacks I've tried, especially the inexpensive ones, take forever (many strokes) to raise the car. And I just don't trust those cheap impact wrenches at all. I guess you could finish torque with a regular wrench after spinning the nuts on with the impact.
How often do you need to pump a tire up? I dunno. I do check my spare.
To each one's own, eh?

If the picture is accurate, the saddle unscrews similar to a bottle jack. That alone would give it (just guessing) a couple extra inches of lift. I have not actually seen this, just the pics online in the link I provided. But buying from Costco.com, it can be returned for any reason by sending it back, or returning it to a store.

I agree with part of what you said.. Yes the inexpensive hydraulic jacks sometimes take several strokes to raise a car. But I would wager it would still take less than the 90 seconds it takes the electric scissor jack to raise it.

As far as the impact wrench...I have a large air compressor and several air tools, including a 1/2 inch impact that has enough power to snap a wheel stud
if you turn it up all the way. Even though I am sure it would tighten the wheel, NO PROBLEM, I snug them up with the impact, then always use a torque wrench to make sure the wheels are tightened properly. Out on the road I may not have a torque wrench, so if using the impact, I would snug them the same..and for the final tightening use the lug wrench.
The little air compressor, I agree...pretty much a waste.

But like you said, and I agree...To each one's own, eh?

I have two hydraulic jacks in my barn. One floor jack and one bottle jack. I went with the eletric scissor jack because I didn't want to worry about a hydraulic leak messing up anything else I had in the trunk.

Speed was not the issue, ease, reliability, and no leak risk were important to me.

Larin makes a good jack. I have a big old red Larin 3 ton garage jack that I bought at a tag sale for $5 a few years ago. It weighs about 70 pounds and takes about 6 strokes to lift the Ridgeline up. No leaks.

That said, I would not want that big heavy thing in my trunk. I bought this electric jack for emergencies, and I've had a few roadside tire problems with this truck already. For this purpose, it works great. I use a 2 foot chunk of 4x6 underneath it to add to the lift.

My RL just turned 1 month old today. I never took notice of the jack before but since reading this thread, I thought I better check it out. I guess it really is a cheapo little thing. Anyway since I had it out already, decided to make my own "el cheapo electric jack". I keep my cordless drill in my trunk all the time anyway so I gave it a try. Just attached a 9/16" socket. Not too shabby considering what it is and only 9 seconds to full extension with no load.

Harbor Freight Tools. You can't use the OEM jack point with the one they sell beccause it is does not extend far enough to jack the truck up but you can use it under the suspension arm on the front or the back which IMHO opinion is a much safer jack point. (See video and picture link below.)

http://s101.photobucket.com/albums/m69/HondaRidgeline/Jacking%20Video/?action=view&current=100_0003.flv

http://s101.photobucket.com/albums/m69/HondaRidgeline/Jacking%20Video/?action=view&current=100_0008.jpg

PS. The one in the picture is the one that everyone bought from Generator Depot that is tall enough to use the OEM jack points but the shorter reach 14" total height jack from Harbor Freight will reach high enough to jack the truck up as pictured above. :)

I received the jack. Works great! I did have a little problem, which I corrected / fixed. When using the jack make sure you plug in the wire into the controller correctly (as it fits both ways). There is a notch for the wire plug to fit next to the other connection, but can be easily put in the wrong way resulting in the jack going to far down, which may crack the plastic gear case cover. Be sure to insert it correctly then tie strap it, so it stays in, and you do not mistakenly insert it wrong, especially in the dark, and render the jack useless when you need it.

I had to remove the plastic cover on the gear case, re-glue part of it, and reinsert the screw gear to get it back in order. The jack was not harmed.

The jack is well worth the money!

RidgeLI,

I'm looking for one too. Where did you get yours? Or did you purchase the Harbor Freight model? Thanks!

I just used my 17" lift jack to swap out my tires and wheels. For those who rotate their own tires or have two sets of wheels and tires, the jack makes the task easy. Unfortunate that the 17" jack is hard to come by now.

ChrisM's idea of using the 14" jack at the points he showed, should be a great alternative.

Thanks! That was the route I was going to go if the 17" lift is no longer available. Man I wish I read this thread awhile ago!! :o I hope the Harbor Freight model is built well....

I'm still waiting for the 2 Ton Electric Scissors Jack. I have found several suppliers that have the one ton but they claim to be out of stock on the 2 ton model. I think these jacks may be coming on a SLOW BOAT from China. I know the demand is high but I guess we will have to wait. If ayone knows of a supplier that has the 2 ton scissors jack available, please let us know.

Thanks,

Lex Luthor

The jack that (VOICESINMYHEAD) refers to only raises the truck 15". I am looking for one that lifts the truck 17". I have even made the adapter to give you an extra 1" more lift, totaling a 18" lift. Check out Jacked Up Alternative. I have been told that these are being shipped in from overseas. I have added my name on a list and hopefully I will be contacted. I definitely want this jack. I upgraded to new Acura MDX 18" Rims and tires and want to have the flexibility of rotating my own tires easily. Please give me a shout if anyone knows of any supplier having this item in stock.

Thanks,

Lex Luthor:D

For you people who are looking for a 17 or 18 inch jack, why don't you buy the 15 inch jack and bolt it to a 4X4 piece of lumbar. Now you have a jack that lifts 19 inches.

With a extention bolted onto the base, it won't fit in the nice carry case that it's stored in. The carry case fits nicely under the rear seat without rattling around. This is what works for me. http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/173831-post1.html

IMHO, you should always jack a vehicle up off of hard wood lumber. If you are on dirt or grass your covered, if you are on fresh or hot (read soft here in AZ) asphalt, you are also covered. Why risk it? I paid enough for the truck, a couple bucks, or couple minutes scavenging in the garage for scrap wood is well worth the insurance it gives! :D

YMMV, BIDC :p

I agree with ONDLINKS. :) I would like to keep the jack in the original storage case and store it under the rear seat. I will keep a small piece of 2 X 6 wood in the trunk. ONDLINKS inspired me to buy this jack and also convinced me to make my own 1" extension. My problem is that I have been conviced to buy the jack and have been trying to buy for the past 4 months. The good news is that the 1" extension is already made.

Thanks,

Did anyone try contacting the company I set the group buy up with last time. It saved us about $10 a unit. Just a thought.

Mine is not, I repeat, not in the trunk. It would do you absolutely no good to look there, no sir-ree Bob. Nope, not there. It's a-a-a lost. Ya, that's the ticket. Lost.

This 17-1/2" jack found by scottIN as been sitting in another thread for a while. It's a pricey item, almost double the UPC jack. It has some extra features though, a power wrench with sockets, built in light, and flip down positioning mirrors. Like a Swiss Army jack.

Used my 2 ton UPC jack yesterday to pick, not my RL, but my 65 Thunderbird that had a flat front tire.I used it under the front bumper (a real bumper) to pick it up so I could get a floor jack under it. Worked great. :)

Silly question;
Does the distributor we got ours from know so many of you are looking for one? I don't know if they can tell if you simply check their site.
