Opininions please! I pick up the new Ridgey this Thurs (6-2) . It's a blue RTL with Nav and moonroof. The only accessory the dealership is installing is the hitch and harness. Has anyone purchased the Honda Care Extended warranty with their purchase. I'm usually a worry wart with cars. I thought with 4 wheel drive, enhanced electronics ( XM, 6CD, Nav etc) the ext. warranty would be a no brainer, but this beauty is getting costly and I don't even have it yet! The dealer wants $1,650 for 6yr/100,000 mile or $1,750 for the 7yr/100,000. I rarely keep a car more than 5 yrs, but we do put on about 18-20K miles/ year. I would appreciate any thoughts. Just for interest sake, I was asking my Honda Service mgr. Bill the cost of the rear camera and tonneau cover with installation. He gave me an official HONDA pricelist for EVERY option with installation pre-figured into the price.(based on $70.00/hr labor) the dealer who sold me my truck said HE'S never even seen that list. There are some things on this list that I can't even identify, but for sure no free lunch here, accessories don't come cheap! I'd be happy to share any of these prices you might be inquisitve about. ROC ROCKS!

I'm on my 6th Honda. I purchased an extended warranty on my 97 CR-V. It cost $1000 and Honda repalced one shock. I purchased my Ridgeline a little over a month ago and have 7300 miles on it. I did not purchase an extended warranty. If I had the Nav I might have.

There are many members that can give you good advice and I think tell you where you can purchase an extended warranty for much less that you have been quoted.

Did you find it yet? There's a member here named christn that will sell you a factory Honda extended warranty for some small amount over cost. That's somewhere in the neighborhood of $1050 or so.

I'm not picking on you. It simply amazes me that people who will spend hours searching the internet for deals on their Ridgeline don't seem to have the time to search right here on the forum.

I did not get the extended warranty and never have on any vehicle I've ever purchased. So far, knock on wood, I have never needed it and have saved thousands of dollars over the years. But I only keep a car for about 5 years or so and seldom put more than 10,000 mile a year on it. Nonetheless, this is my first Honda and the most expensive truck I have ever purchased so I thought long and hard on it, especially because parts and repair on Hondas seem to be higher than most models (then again, they make a very reliable vehicle).

View an extended warranty as insurance and as with any insurance decision you have to consider initial cost, ability to absorb the unexpected, reliability of the product, your habits, peace of mind factor, etc., etc. Look at it this way, anything can happen of course, but if you smoke, are 100 lbs overweight, don't exercise (you get the picture) you had better have good life insurance to take care of your kids because chances are good you won't be around a long time. The same with a car. If you are a fanatic about maintenance and check every little squeak chances are you won't need the insurance that a guy who climbs mountains with it will need.

I can tell you this for sure, however - that in most cases the "experts" at places like Edmunds and the various auto and consumer report type magazines do not feel an extended warranty on a vehicle is worth it - again, in MOST cases.

Shortspark,
Thank you for your help and insight regarding ext. warranty. Since I have a little time after I get my truck, I'll re-evaluate my situation. Shovlhd, I checked out previous posts and sent off an e-mail to Chris. I sense your frustration with those of us who are not yet familiar with the logistics of the ROC, but I'll "get it" eventually.

By the time the facts are in if it's worth it or not, it's too late. With the lack of model reliability for any new car or new year you can only look at previous models or years from a company and make a guesstimate.

With the Ridgeline it's a tossup. It's a Honda (good), it's a new style and a new engineering direction for Honda (bad - no history).

Personally I will get the extended warranty for the first time with the RL. I tow and it's a big heavy truck for that little engine. The engine is fine but it's worked hard. Coupled with the towing on a front wheel drive truck I feel more comfortable with the warranty.

If Honda had been making trucks for many years and had a proven track record for large, heavy trucks than I wouldn’t have chosen it.

Looking back I am at 50% for MY CARS if the extended warenty would have been worth it or not. But my history includes German cars

I did a 5yr / 72K mile warrantee, it covered my 4 yr lease plus a bit. That was good enough for me. Normally I wouldn't extend but like a few others have said this is a 1st year vehicle and I didn't want to chance being left out in the cold after the warrantee period.

We plan on getting our warranty from christn. I need to email again, because the response I got must have gotten sorted out in my spam. I appreciate that it's not something I had to purchase at the time of the sale (thanks ROC, for that tip before I got cornered by the F&I guy) so we will be adding it soon. The dealer hated having that extra money maker slip away. I just grinned.

Got the extended warranty...after my last experince (Ford F-250 Lariet Package 4X4 Diesel), Ford lost their ass on that one...every 20,000 miles it had a "major" repair due to Ford's cheapness,...Ford Motor Company even admitted it...LOL. If I never use this one...oh well, my lost (like it was mentioned earlier, it is an insurance policy).

I personally decided to go with a 5 year 100k warranty. I’m traveling many miles to work and doing the math I will have 100k on the truck at approximately the 5 year mark. Had I not taken the additional warranty I would have eaten through the standard warranty in 1.5 years. This thought, coupled with the fact that, though it’s a Honda, it is a new vehicle design with lots of technology. This made me decide that the extra insurance was worth it for me. I did pay much less than your quote.
I hope this helps.
