Got it now :D Those headlights are HID's (I believe) and the Ridgeline sits too high for them to be legal. I would suggest sticking with the OEM housing and using the DOT approved headlight bulbs. The rest of us on the road will appreciate it as the HID's that are not designed for the vehicle can be quite unsafe (Blinding) for oncoming drivers, especially at night and / or rainy conditions.

I don't think it is an issue. MDX is about the same hight and has HIDs. In any case, my Infiniti QX56 is way higher than RL and has HIDs. And what about other full size SUVs such as Escalade and Navigator? I belive it is just a cheap solution on Honda's part.

My point is the Department of Transportation (DOT) approved the designs of the HID and or Projector headlight equipped vehicles. The HID's / Projector's were designed for use in those vehicles. The Ridgeline was not designed nor has DOT approved the use of HID's or Projector type headlights in the Ridgeline. There is quite a bit of work that goes into designing the headlight and how the light is focused. In CA, aftermarket HID's and Projector beam headlights are illegal for street use. Texas is very close to putting a similar law on the books (If this hasn't happened already) due to safety issues (Primarily the glare blinding of oncoming drivers).

This is very true. My point is Honda should have designed them from the very beginning and offered them as an option, at list on RTL. In that case DOT would have approved it and nobody would have to play with illigal aftermarket conversion.

Angel eyes are just a plastic rod bent to shape, with little slits cut in it with LED's in the ends.
Well the DIY ones are anyways. The OEM might be a bit more complicated.

most HID systems built into model years has a self leveling systems, to prevent any HID's to blind on coming cars when the vehicle is at a certain angle. Going up a hill, or coming down a hill, or going over a speed bump or drive ways. It always level out to prevent blindness from the vehicle with HID to other people's line of sight. Most Aftermarket HID are static or doesn't have a self leveling system, thus its not DOT approve system.

I agree, it does look kewl and saves on power use and less power to light up. I too would rather have an HID system than a standard halogen light, but i will need or require an aftermarket self leveling system with HID to install or upgrade to if i where to change over.

Angel eyes, i believe are easy to install, just need to figure out on how to turn them on and turn off when the head light is on or off. I think it will look kewl to have too, i was looking into installing or figuring out how to do it, by putting some LED Luxon Light on the the slits bumper or the vent above where the stock Fog lights go or something to replace that area.

None of the Acuras other than part of an option package on the new MDX have a auto leveling system on there HIDs. The only Acura without HIDs is the RSX. If fact the RL lights will rotate to light "around the corner".

I think it's something that Honda does it keeps the highend option on the Acura side. Memory seats are an example that I'm pretty sure are still only available on the Acuras.

Angel eyes are cool looking but they don't like making them for any car I've owned. lol

HIDs should be standard equipment on all vehicles for safetly. To say they are unsafe is ridiculous it's like saying lets cover the sun because it can hurt your eyes.
