I just finished watching my favourite car show on television, Driving TV with Zach Spencer and that new girl (used to be that hot gal, Dagmar Midcap). Anyway, for the next few episodes they are reporting on the pros and cons of buying vehicles south of the border. Today's show was about if it is worth it or not. They priced out cars at three price levels. I believe it was a Toyota Matrix, a BMW something ($61, 000.00), and a Corvette. The first two were not worth buying south of the border. The Matrix ended up costing more, while the BMW ended up costing about 150 dollars less. Hardly worth the time and trouble. However, the Corvette, after exchange rate, duties, taxes, brokerage fees, whathaveyou, ended up costing approx. $15, 000.00 less to buy from the US of A

I have not looked into this issue for several years, but the last time I checked there were major problems with getting a vehicle purchased in Mexico licensed in the USA.
As for price, again my info is dated, but Mexico highly favored vehicles built in Mexico. Those not built in Mexico were severely overpriced.
The extreme devaluation of the US dollar has made many of these former deals look real bad in recent years.

My mistake. I have no clue on what Canada would allow.
Now I understand the exchange rate comment.

I know an auto engineer up in Windsor, Ontario that I talk to occasionally. He refers to the US as "the colonies".

And we are the Empire Loyalists. Long live the King (of England)!
I always found it interesting that God Save Our Queen (the UK national anthem) is the same tune as America, the song that starts with "My country tis of thee......".

Good clarification, most people would have thought of elvis
I think the song is the same as an affront, maybe, just a thought.

The biggest issue is the loss of the factory warranty when you buy a vehicle in the US and import it to Canada. You can save considerable $$$ on a Honda, but how much is peace of mind worth?
Several Cdn. posters have bought in the US and think it's a great deal, I guess I'd rather pay more and not worry about it. I think it would definitely be worth looking at when buying a used vehicle that is out of warranty.
