Cooper Beagle

:D Here are a couple of Cooper. He is a beagle with Basset and some other hounding stuff. But I tell people he is a beagle as he acts like one - will do anything for a crumb of food, walks with his nose glued to the ground and tail up in the air like an antenna, very agreeable with my 2 1/2 year old, very loyal and faithful, and works very hard at his day job - protecting the couch.

Cooper is my first dog. He was adopted from the local animal shelter at ~ 2 years old (he was a stray, so we are not certain of his age), and has it pretty darn good here. He has gone from sleeping on a concrete slab to taking up half of a Sleep Number bed (his number is 35).

He is OK with riding in the truck. Usually he figures we are off to the vet or off to get a bath, so he tends to enjoy the ride home better than the ride away from home.

Haven't figured out the picture insert yet...Found a several week old female on the side of the road injured, took her to the vet and posted "Found dog" notices with no takers. 2 years later and we've discovered why no one claimed this absolutely spoiled ROTTEN beagle!:p

Most days this is how the wife or I find our beagle when we get home from work... she leads such a hard life.

All these beagle pictures have me missing ours again. See below. We had her from 7 wks old to 5 1/2 years. Had to put her down last year. We still miss her. Terrific pet.

I had a Beagle/Basset mix from my 5th birthday until I was 18. Clyde was at least 5 when we adopted him as per the vet so he was around 18 when he finally passed on. By the time he was about 12 or so, he had cataracts and couldn't see to well we think, but if you opened the refrigerator door, he would be under your feet in 2 seconds and he never seemed to bump into anything on the way into the kitchen. Great friend, gone 35 years, seems like yesterday.

My Max is in my avatar. He will be 9 next month. He was diagnosed with Lyme last month but seems to be doing okay so far.

This is Lucy. She turned 11 this month. As you can see, beagles do as they damn well please. She still plays like a kitten though.

We had to put Bea the beagle to sleep in April. She was 14 and had end-stage kidney failure.

She was the best-natured dog and loved to play. She was still playing up until the last few months of her life. She would nose herself under the blanket and curl up and sleep and then we'd go looking for her and realize that lump under there was Bea. Of the 8 dogs we've owned, Bea was the best. Beagles Rock!!

We have a Beagle and two Black Labs.

I have concluded that a Beagle is a great dog for cat lovers, they are cute and cuddly. The only thing that motivates our Beagle is food, comfort and tracking a scent. I used to be impressed by how our Beagle could find her way home after chassing the local deer for miles. But one wiff of her feet would make me believe that I could probably track her scent home.
They also have the distinction of being the noisiest breed.

The Labs just crave companionship (wadaya want me to do boss) and play, food is way down on their list.
We love our Beagle, but unless motivated by food she appears clueles. If our Labs had opposable thumbs I am sure they could set up their own Email accounts.

Maybe Beagles are smarter than I give them credit for. If I just give one of the Labs a look or whisper a command and they do what I want, the Beagle just looks at me with that whats in it for me look, they could just be better negotiators.

About a week after my wife and I brought our newborn home the two of us went to bed and Sadie, our beagle pictured in bed on page 1 of this thread, stayed up for a little while. We heard her tip toe into Brown's, our son's, bedroom and didn't hear anything else. We both got up and walked down to see what was going one... well, Sadie has a knack for carrying off some of Browns toys; we found her stash under our bed a couple weeks back and found rubber duckies, a bib, and a couple squeak toys. But back to the story... so we turned the corner into his room and she was standing up next to his crib just looking in. I wish I could have snapped a picture. She has been great with him. They sleep together on the couch and anytime he is on the floor playing she has to be right down with him. Beagles are a great breed.
