: New Accessories
floridaridge 06-09-2005, 09:05 AM Aries is coming out with these two new accessories. I have a steel blue ridge so I do not know if the grille guard will look good on mine or not but I'm planning to order the nerf bars as soon as they are available. Call Ron @ 859-252-5822
floridaridge 06-09-2005, 09:17 AM I tried to load the pictures but is too large. It says that the max is 640 x 640 but my picture is 1000 x 918

floridaridge 06-09-2005, 10:00 AM Ok I think I got it. Do you guys think the grille would look good on the steel blue ridge?
ROColorado 06-09-2005, 10:37 AM Nice, do you have any more info, like cost, web site? There's always a set of nerf bars avaiable for the Ridgeline on eBay. I think an anodized aluminum bar might look better on the blue Ridgeline but some people like the contrast of black. The nerf bars on eBay also come in a polished stainless if you like that. Thanks for the new info.
Wow, someone bought a black Ridgeline in Florida.
Skaught 06-09-2005, 11:38 AM I bought a black Ridgeline in Florida. Why is that strange?
Scott
floridaridge 06-09-2005, 12:06 PM I believe the nerf bars are under $180 and the grille under $400.00. I think these are the same as the one in e bay. Last time I talked to Ron the grilles were available but the nerf bars were a cuple of weeks from being ready.
EBone 06-09-2005, 05:16 PM Like the grill guard. Do you know if it interferes with the deployment sensor for the front airbag system? I know some aftermarket brands will essentially render the front airbag sensors inoperable.
dsowell 06-09-2005, 05:27 PM Crap, I already have the front brush guard. If I would have known it was just plastic I would not have got it. Now I want this one.
I wonder if I could patch/cover the holes in my bumper now.
Do you know how this one attaches?
Doug
Wow, that looks really nice. I have the same question about the front airbag sensors. If I have time on Friday (daddy daycare tomorrow!) I will try to give them a call and get as much info as possible.
I'll bet the black would look awesome on my Green Machine. :D
ROColorado 06-10-2005, 09:38 AM Skaught,
Just kidding around. My mom lives in Florida and I never see any black cars when I'm there. As you know, Florida tends to get a lot of sun and black cars are a lot hotter when you first get in them that a white vehicle. I have a black Dodge and I had a white Landrover. There's a huge difference. I have a green Ridgeline which seems to get pretty hot too.
I do like the black Ridgeline, it sure looks nice with all the accessories.
Thanks to dsowell too. I was also looking at the brush gaurd he's talking about. I think I'll skip that one.
I'm not really sure I need a brush gaurd with the Ridgeline but I'd like something sturdy enough to push another vehicle in an emergency. I've needed to do that before.

Sorry folks. I didn't get to call these folks today(Friday). Toddler was sick with Gastroenteritis and my wife was working this evening. Had to keep the sick toddler away from the 5 month old! No easy task. I think I washed my hands 100 times today!!
I will try to call them tomorrow (Saturday) or Monday.
drouke 06-16-2005, 04:14 AM Just an FYI.
All brush guards interfere with the front air bag deployment. The brush guard absorbs the impact and pushes it out to the sides.
I had a brush guard on a Land Rover discovery. Hit a deer at 80 MPH. No air bag deployment. The brush guard did absorb most of the impact. Still had about $5000 worth of damage to the truck and a broken leg. That was the one and hopefully only time I hit a deer, people tell me if it wasn't for the brush guard the truck would have been totalled.
That was 5 years ago. Needless to say I've had a brush guard on the 3 trucks I've owned since the Land Rover, and now always wear my seat belt.
I ordered my brush guard two days ago. Hopefully it will get here soon as I have a few days off coming up. I will definitely post pics of the install.
Skaught 06-16-2005, 12:16 PM The deer only broke a leg? Wow...tough deer!
:D

My brush guard is going to be delivered tomorrow! :D

Wouldn't the cargo net work well for the 5 month old? Is that so wrong? ;)(No, I don't have kids).
shovelhd 06-16-2005, 03:18 PM No way, the cargo net is way too big. The trunk net inside the trunk would be a perfect fit.

Don't know about this one, but you've pointed out an important problem with these types of devices. Most bolt directly to the frame and eliminate much or all of the impact absorbing design of the vehicle. The insurance institute did a test one a similar device on a Chevy pickup a few years ago. The frontal impact went from "survivable with limited injuries" to "fatal".
Even small impacts are transmitted directly to the frame. Your friend that hit the deer might have totalled the vehicle but probably would have escaped the broken leg.
For offroad vehicles these devices can probably protect the vehicle, but for normal on-road driving they take your 5 star impact rated vehicle down to a 1 star or worse. Death traps!
Just my opinion... think twice!

I've not seen one of RL brush guards in person, but I looked at the install instructions. In this case it looks purely decorative and non-structural to me. I wouldn't want to hit or push anything with it, cause it would just get smushed.
For other vehicles, I agree with CSIMO that attaching a hunk of metal to the frame could alter crash worthiness. Without doing testing, it's hard to know what will happen when 200 pounds of meat runs into 4700 pounds of metal at 80mph.
drouke 06-20-2005, 05:30 AM My brush guard is going to be delivered tomorrow! :D
Can I ask what you paid?
The brush guard was $299 and shipping to Florida from California was $100.
KingALW 06-20-2005, 09:17 AM Did anyone ever order the nerf bars? If so what was the cost??? I like the looks of them alot better than the Side Steps and Running Boards that honda offers.
KingALW 07-12-2005, 09:01 AM Noone knows the price of the nerf bars?? :)
Hey King,
I've seen a set out on ebay running around ~$240 in polished SS and powder coat black. Check out http://search.ebay.com/honda-ridgeline
This isn't an endorcement for the product or dealer. I personally liked the Honda running boards and did the install myself.
KingALW 07-18-2005, 04:56 PM Excellent I found them. Has anyone actually bought and installed the nerf bars yet? I'm ready to pull the trigger but was hoping someone else would have comments first :) If not I may have to be the guinea pig!!!
KingALW 07-27-2005, 12:51 PM Well I bought the nerf bars and they look pretty sweet :) I ordered the powder coated black ones and they ended up shipping me the SS chrome. After looking at the ones they sent, I decided they looked pretty good and kept them. I will take pictures and post tonight.
Cool. Looking forward to seeing those pics.
KingALW 07-30-2005, 08:13 PM Yeah I've had alot going on and havent had time to post the pics :) Sorry bout that. I will try to get them off the camera and uploaded tonight. The install was pretty simple. The only problem I had was figuring out how to get the little fillers out of the screw hole :) On the driver's side... I tore them all to @#%^ with pliers ripping them out. Then on the passenger side I realized that the middle of them can be pressed in and then they just fall out!!!!! O well now I know.
KingALW 07-30-2005, 09:43 PM Ok here are a few pics of the stainless steel nerf bars on my black RL.

Long Gone 07-30-2005, 09:44 PM Nice look on that Black Beauty. ;)
Nice pics, thanks for posting. The truck looks really good.
mike7842 08-02-2005, 06:35 PM Bought an RTS in April, love driving it. First truck. Wife even loves it. Have to get used to backing up and a few blind spots. Bought the Honda satellite radio accessory. Honda dealership installed it with the antenna placed inside the front windshield in the upper right hand corner per instructions. Terrible signal loss. Ended going to Circuit City, buying an aftermarket receiver with the antenna on the roof. Works great. Anyone else having experiences with their add on satellite radio?
Shand-Horn 08-03-2005, 07:36 AM Just got these Nerf Bars from here.

Nice looking nerf bars. Thanks for posting these pictures.
KingALW 08-03-2005, 03:41 PM The black ones look really good on the white Ridge :)
Empyrean 08-13-2005, 11:27 AM Just wanted to thank everyone for posting the pictures of the nerf bars. After considering the Honda running boards, side steps and the nerf bars available I decided to go with the black nerf bars for my silver Ridgeline.

SixOpRidge 08-13-2005, 12:09 PM I want to thank everyone who suggested getting the Aires Stainless Steel Nerf Bars from truckxccessory.com. It was a very easy install and I think I spent about 1.5hrs putting them on. I think they look really nice on my ride!
-SixOpRidge
The bars look great. Must suck having to deal with that support pole in the middle of the garage tho.
Empyrean 08-22-2005, 07:14 PM I just finished installing the black powder coated nerf bars. They went on pretty easy. Of course the last bolt gave me a little fit but it was just a matter of fiddling around with it until it caught. They look pretty sharp and are fairly sturdy to boot.
I put the Honda hitch in this weekend and I think I am going to pick up one of the hitch steps that will match the nerf bars. Should look pretty sharp when done. Thanks to everyone who posted pictures and installation tips of the nerf bars.
