I haven't pulled my rear sub out, but I saw this one at Crutchfield. How tight is the fit at the bottom? What do you guys think?

Kicker TCVT102

Could be the stealth box everyone is looking for if it fits. The bottom dimension is the one that concerns me. Top depth, height and width are all ok I think, based on posts from other members.

looks like it would be close, you could try it since crutchfield has such great return polices. I think the problem may be the metal frame that the oem sub is molded too based on Chrism's post.

I just went out to the RL and pulled the panel off of the bottom of the back seat rest and measured and it looks like the back of the seat at the bottom is 7 inches. Hell the 12 inch they make may fit! I would lke others input, like I said I havent had my rear seat taken off, and would love for those who have to chime in with their input!

I can almost gaurantee that there is no way it will fit. I have been working on a fiberglass box with a pioneer shallow 12 and I am having a hell of a time. The seat protrudes back in slightly, despite what you may measure on the floor. Also, there is a diagonal support brace on the back of the wall that will push the box out another 1/2" at least. ChrisM had to router his box out on the backside the fit around the brace, and I think his was only 5" at the bottom.

If you decide to get it and try, be carefull with the seatback when you set it back in place. There are metal protrusions and supports that may scratch the box or speaker and damage it so you cant return it. Just be careful and maybe lay a towel over it or something to protect it until you are sure.

My take is that even if it fits, the sub will be firing right into the seatback. There won't be much room for excursion. Try it, you only have return shipping to lose.

I am not sure, but I think even return shipping is free from Crutchfield, so only thing to lose is your time. Check to be sure:)

No wonder they have an outlet store.

No wonder they have an outlet store.
exactly, and can get some great deals if not in a hurry. I got my H/U for 126 including the $50 ipod cable free. I think retail just for the H/U was 239, it was on sale for $189 with free shipping, ipod cable and $25 itunes, but they had a scratch and dent for $159, bought that, not in original box so couldn't send in for itunes rebate so they just refunded me the $25. Also includes all install items needed. Total steal

Sorry for the hijack, please someone try this sub and let us know if it works.

I dont think that it will fit... The box that i just built was 5 inches at the base. and it was a snug fit thanks to the metal bracket @ the 60/40 seat split. it looks like there is more room than it really is. You have to use the existing sub-enclosure as a template. Here are some pics.... I went a little taller and wider but could not go any thicker or deeper....

Awesome job on the pioneer sub! That looks like a 10, correct? Tell us, did you have any trouble with the brace on the back wall like ChrisM and I had? THat looks like it may be the perfect fit sub for behind these seats. How does it sound. I have the same sub but in a 12 and I am so anxious to get it put in finally.

The plastic grille is gone in your second set of pictures. Did you end up using it or did it make the sub too thick? Also, I see a ring around the sub in the second set of pics. Is this to protect the driver from the back of the seat? Also, did you have to router the back of the box to make it flush fit or was your box skinny enough to make the clearances without routering?

To me it looks like two different boxes.

Yes it is a 10 and and they are two different boxes.. the box without the grill was too tall and the bars behind the seat was hiting the top of the box so i went back to the drawing board and the box with the grill was my second and final creation.. this build was a pain in the you know what
and to make sure that this one would fit correctly the seat was on and off constantly. I forgot to take a pic of the final box and was so fustrated that by time i realized that no pic was taken the seat was already on and i was not about to take everything back apart. but the grill was to protect the speaker from the bar at the 60/40 seat split. now i am installing front and back speakers and already i have encountered fitting issues cause the speaker magnet is bigger than the hole so i had to break out the dremmel tool and start cutting. I took plenty of pics of that install and i will post them along with the sub install tomorrow or Mon..
also the final box may look two differnt colors because i used a wood hardener since i had to use 1/2 MDF board instead of 3/4 for space and airspace issues and it gave the wood a darker and shinier look, after that i just painted it black just because!!!

I'm glad that you got your box to fit. If I had to do it all over again, I would build my box in a slightly different fashion. I think I might build a second one when I get some spare time just for the heck of it to see if I can make one fast. I might sell a knock down version of the box this summer for interested parties that will fit the eD driver. It's too cold right now to mess with it though.

If you get to it this summer, I'm still interested in a box that will fit my 10" eD driver behind the seat...
